Myself, Mac_Kaliba (Liam) and our mate Andy did a bit of laning today.
We did 2 lanes we are quite familier first, but they were a hell of a lot muddier than we are used to!
This bit is about the least muddy part of the muddy section -

Andy was the first to go down..

Then it was my turn! No photo, but basically i ran out of momentum going up a steep muddy hill and i ended up pinned under the bike, also smacking my head on the floor - i saw stars Laughing

Then Liam came off trying to drift his CD200.

It got interesting when we tackled a new lane (to us anyway).
We had been told it was quite gnarly and that we might struggle.
They were right!

The photos dont show just how steep it was, the hard rock and thin layer of mud surface didnt help either...
Andy shot up on his XT660, i got stuck and then just couldnt find traction...
It took 3 of us and lots of effort to get my bike to the top.

And then to top it off i get home and notice this...

Overall a good day, although i really struggled to get traction in lots of places, and i can see now why people reccomend light bikes Laughing

Laughing

As you get more confident, more weight is less of an issue; but I at least still go for light weight given the choice.

If you haven't got rim locks, fit them (or consider a tubeless system), then go for lower pressure tyres, which in most off-road situations do help grip - generally get down to 10 psi or so.
Too low and you need to worry about pinch-flats; also different tyres will handle low pressure differently due to sidewall stiffness.

And I wouldn't about the missing bit of your knob Wink - it's not unheard of for them to be entirely ripped off.

The CD200 is surprisingly competent off road Laughing
It weighs naff all so i guess that helps Thumbs Up

Cheers for the advice G, i will be fitting some rimlocks soon. Thumbs Up

Needsy, the lanes are just outside of Malvern. You are pretty close to us so you are more than welcome more than welcome to join us.
One of the lanes you could do in a jeep, the other might be tight, and the steep one might be even tighter!
We are hoping to maybe do Strata Florida soon, would be cool to have another person along who knows the route...

Heres the CD in action

Its pretty good mate.
Very economical (averages about 70 mpg), very comfy and goes well if you give it a handfull of throttle.

Handling wise its fine - it was a bit of a shock at first after a sportsbike but im used to it now and (on the odd occasion i can arsed Laughing ) it handles quite well once you are used it.
Thumbs Up
