Ok, I've been looking around for a while at the NSR prices, all my friends who have bikes are all saying how they would never pay £2000 for a bike Shocked although none have a bike as good looking as the NSR. I was thinking of a 2001-03 and it would be black, anyone know what sort of prices i would be paying second hand, about 15-30,000 miles on the clock. Ta Wink

Just to let you know, you don't want to be buying a 125 with 30,000 miles on it!

The engine will be knackered.

Have a browse through the Exchange and Mart section for an idea of what you can buy.

30,000 on an NSR is a shit load.

When are you looking to buy? You can pick up an 01 bike for around £1500 or possibly a bit less depending on condition. How much are you wanting to spend? Your friends are right in a way, £2,000 is a bad amount to spend on an NSR as its your first bike, you will drop it, you will want to sell it after you pass your test. Save your cash by spending less than £1,000 on one which will go just as fast, will cost less to insure, and will depreciate less.

Ok, 30000 is quite a lot. My dad said that would be all i could expect but goes to show what he knows about bikes. So what would be a good/reasonable mileage to expect? I really don't have a clue about bikes but I recon i'm learning from reading what you guys are writing.

As ste said, you'll do a lot better by buying a cheaper bike in the long run. Spending over the odds for a 125 is stupid. Nsr's are the same from '94 to '03 so find an older one in good condition.

When are you looking to buy. How much is your budget for the bike. Remember you also need to buy kit and insurance

I should be able to get my CBT and provisional next year in the summer some time. By then i will of been in the army for about 6-7 months and will have around £4500 stashed away in the bank. i figured spend tops of £2000 on the bike (although cheeper is better) i wanted a GOOD helmet (lazar, Revolution) and they are £200 and i was thinking of a buffalo jacket of about £150 mabe a little more or less with some £30 gloves. That should set me up until i decide to get a bigger bike, when I'll probably buy some leathers as well.

If you are going to spend £2,000 on a 125, make sure it is in *perfect* condition, with a good service history and not many miles.

Also, a pair of boots would be a very good idea. Your feet and ankles take a very long time to heal if anything happens to them. £100 on a pair of boots to possibly save amputation of a foot. Money well spent I'd say!

If you want a GOOD helmet as you put it, you might try one of the cheaper Arai or Shoei lids, Roof, or AGV.
I would reccomend against Vemar, OGK, BMW Sick , Lazer, HJC or any of those lot.

If you just need a lid that will do the job and you're not worried about features/comfort, then I would suggest any lid (including the above) that fits that has an ACU gold sticker ought to do the job.

I would also reccomend spending a little more on gloves, as they are important, and also to get a jacket again that fits and has some sort of armor. I would also suggest that boots are a wize investment. Trainers have a habit of melting to one's feet in the event of a reasonable speed accident.

Really what I'm saying is don't rely on traccy bottoms a 'hoodie', trainers and luck to save your arse. They won't. Smile

Anything that will protect your ankles and soles of your feet. The best race boots are widely accepted to be Sidi Vertebra boots, but they are expensive.

Just go into a dealer and ask them what boots they have going cheap. Even a pair of walking boots or combat boots from an outdoor type shop is better than trainers/shoes. Plus they have an added advantage (for me anyway) of giving me that extra half an inch to touch the floor safely. Laughing

Depends what the mileage, and history of the bike is, amongst other things. Smile
