I came off the bike 2 years ago, bike was written off as hit a diesel patch and it slid down the road on its side, I came away with a broken right shoulder.

I work as a caricaturists eve & weekends, I'm right handed and a broken was seriously bad news. Anyway I got another bike because I missed the riding.........until Monday evening when I had yet another off which was all so totally avoidable.

On the previous Saturday evening I was drawing at a party in golf club and left my marker pens there. The access road to the golf club is a single lane twisty unlit loose gravel road. So off I went to pick up said pens when as went into a sharp corner a rabbit ran in front the bike, I panic braked and slid into the corner and landed under the bike on my left hand side of the XJ900.

My left foot was trapped, I managed to pull myself free despite the fact at least 3 cars leaving the golf club drove past ignoring my plight.

Anyway severe ligament damage to a huge swollen ankle and gravel gaze up my left forarm which stings like bugger.

Thebike looks a total right off on the lefthand side.

Luckily 2 falls which could so easily have been much worse. So I've decidedto call it a day.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. It doesn't seem bad enough to quit though.

Being bikers, we can expect retarded drivers to be in the same place as us at an above average frequency. We can expect diesel, oil, ice or loose gravel to be in our cornering lines. We can expect animals, children or age'ed to be drawn to our front wheel. And most of all you can expect 99% of people around you to be complete selfish cunts.

Despite all of this, people still ride bikes from 8 to 80. You take the good with the bad.

One other thing... without being a safety nazi. What boots were you wearing? A good pair should prevent hyper-extension ligament damage.

I would say, stay off the bike for the winter, get better, then come spring get something fun, get some good gear and enroll yourself on an advance biking course. You could always just keep the bike for weekends or nice days. You don't have to be an all weather rider to appreciate biking (although it makes you a 'real' man).

you can't have been going very quickly.. how the hell is it writing off this bike so easily? no one would take an unlit gravel road at speed so i'm struggling to see how it's got so much damage it's not worth repairing.

Glad you're ok but don't give up, you've had a lot more good experiences on it than bad!

give it a few years and you'll be itching to get back on.

While I'm sorry for your fall I completely agree with the above.

I had to sell a bike due to moving away and it took me the guts of 15 years to get another bike due to not having the money and constantly moving around every couple of years. Every time I saw a bike pass I pined for the days when it was me riding past people.

Now I have gotten myself back on 2 wheels it'll be a cold day in hell before I give up riding again.
