Well I have decided to get a second hand 600 Sports before my test.

I failed in Oct 2008 but this time I want a bike to motivate me to do a test in Sept.

Now I can only afford a budget of 3k maybe 3 half at a push.

This bike here has been resprayed black and has 22k mILES.

This sounds a lot to me, what do I need to look or hear to know if the 22k miles has affected the bike?

Can u tell me what else this guy has not talked about that I should ask.

Has it actually had a respray? With 22k miles and the fact its a bit of a minger I wouldnt be tempted at that price. Its been messed about with and not in a nice way, that undertray is hideous and it needs a new back tyre.

Biggest question is 'why the respray?' There are 2003 R6's on ebay for £3500 that are standard, one has the limited edition yellow/black bodywork and only 9400 miles.

I guess the price is cheap for a reason.

Maybe I should stop looking for the bargains.

I'm just scared to get something and have to spend a lot of money for engine repair etc...

I was also looking at the R6's in my price range. Most fall into the 02 range which I have read has 2nd gear box issues.

Anything I should look at for the CBR 600 RR and Kawasaki 600 r?

Thanks very much Villiers.

I think the B1H shouldn't be out of your price range if you look hard on eBay and the like.

Haha, Google turns up Grahams on the first page!

Its slightly overpriced but not drastically. Someone on here just paid around 3k for the original model r6! Also thats a standard paint job as far as im aware.

Just checked out this bike. Looks really clean, well looked aftered and maybe I can snatch it for my budget (Cross fingers)

I feel like I'm a kid waiting for his first Mountain bike Very Happy

Just ebaying, bike trader and gum treeing my ass ^^

Black looks a lot neater to me. What do you think guys?

Not so high miles, although I really want to know why 20k miles is a bad idea. You see msot think it is bad but what do I check for or what can go wrong when it hits that cap?

That is far nicer mate, but I'd expect the reserve for that to be nearer the £4000 mark. Never know though, tis a gorgeous bike and well worth a go at such low miles!

P.S I had one and it was funkin fantastic!! Laughing

Yes it is beautiful indeed.

I think 4k is a lot of money but I suppose it is about right for such a yummy looking bike with excellent care, condition and pretty low miles.

It's 80 miles from me but I want it so badly. Not sure if I should bid (Try to win) and then look at it (Won't be free til sunday)

Just saw your siggy, lovely bikes you have had Smile

How was it to ride? I have been googling the 2006 model :p

I love the exhaust unit.

Just got an E-mail from him, yes 4k is his reserve :p

Good call villers!

As a rough guide most sportsbikes used values are high at the minute due to the increase in price of new bikes and probably due to the current economic climate.

Ive been following prices for a good few months now due to looking for a new bike and from what ive been looking at for a 2006 sports 600, I would expect to 4-4.5k, a 2005 3.5-4k, a 2004 3-3.5k, 2003 2.5-3k. Anything older sub 2.5k.

Some models do seem to hold a bit more of a premium than others, particulalry the cbr600rr and gsxr600 k6 onwards. Obviously take mileage into account and adjust accordingly too.

Im looking at 04 model bikes so hope to chip in in the lower region of the 3ks.

Thumbs Up

Thanks for that. Perhaps I shouldn't set my eyes on a 2006 model.

I'm surprised the 0% finance on many bikes isn't getting people to go for them.

Finance is always a temptation but theres many reasons I wont get it anymore, even 0%. Id much rather own my bike and be content with what I can afford than go chasing the latest reg just for image etc. Id never buy brand new wether it be car or bike as the depreciation is shocking.
Buying used with bikes especially means you can generally sell it for what you paid (or within a few hundred quid) a year or two later.
Im after a 5 or 6 yr old bike, which may not be as good as a latest 2010 model, but should be a fair whack better than my current 2000 bike. So what I dont know doesnt hurt me Surprised

That one of gumtree has a mega square rear tire. It looks like its been bought, thrashed and not maintained by some dick who is now trying to sell it on for the same overinflated price he paid for it.

Buying a bike from someone off here has never let me down. A quick search will reveil the bikes history and any problems ever encountered. People don't sell shit on here as they know it will come back to haunt them Karma

You do not need a bike to motivate you to do your test. Surely just looking at pictures of all the nice bikes you could be riding when you pass should be enough to motivate you?

I can think of at least 4 people I have known personally to have bought big bikes and then ending up with it sitting there for up to a year doing nothing.

Pass your test first, then get a bike. You are only wasting your money.

I would somewhat agree, but in reality I owned my first car a few weeks before I passed my test, and bought a bike ten days before I passed my test. These were due to being too good to turn down offers at the time though.

Any advice on this one?

It's going very cheap. Too good to be true?

I'm still looking ATM, most of the bikes I like are going for 4k which is bit too much for me. Just waiting incase I find a bargain Razz

I reckon that's an ex racer(or possibly an insurance write off that took a while to go through). With such low miles and a respray I'd avoid like the plague.

I noticed that while scouring the ads. As said it whiffs a bit

A - its way below its market value

B - its had a full respray because the tank was painted the wrong colour????? Yeh righto. Only a retard would paint a whole bike to match the tank rather than have the tank re-painted to match the bike.

C - very low mileage- again as said prob track hack or write off

Alright thanks. Looks like I shouldn't really try and find a bargain and just wait for a decent price with full service history etc...

I will post on here the bike I intend to buy and ask your advice. Sorry to be a nuisance but I don't want to end up buying something that has signs of being dodgy or that it may fall apart.

What about this one guys?

Looks abit ugly exhaust but starting bid isn't that high.

I asked about service history and he said it has full from dealer.
