Fuel consumption on SV650S

Hi all

I'm new to this site and still finding my way around it...so apologies if this question has been asked before

I have just got an 04 SV650S, low miles, well serviced and taken care of - except the seller didn't have the owner's manual so am finding my way about the bike a bit slower than I would like.

I seem to be getting about 130 miles of commuting riding in before the fuel light comes on. Then I do about another 15 miles, with the light still on. But when I fill up, I can't even get 13 litres into what I think is a 16 litre tank.

Basically I'm trying to work out how many miles a whole tank is likely to take me, how many miles I've got before I'm down to the last drops. Its not a problem commuting because the amount of petrol stations around means I never have to look far...am just thinking about longer touring/fun rides. I can do the maths myself, but I wanted to know what other SV650s riders get from theirs.

Any knoweldge advice appreciated and hello as well.

Get yourself a Clymer manual, they are really useful.

But for all things sv... check out sv650.org they have everything and more you ever needed to know.

I can't say about your specific bike, and it depends largely on how fast I have been riding, but I can usually do 130 miles on a full tank before the light starts flashing, and only once have I coasted into a petrol station with very little fuel in the tank, at an estimated further 18miles. (naked 2001 sv650)

Have you got the owners manual?

My GSXR has a flashing light to show approximately 5 litres left, then a solid light to show about 1 litre left.

If you really wanted to know for your bike/riding style, you could always take some fuel with you and just ride until you run out, then add in your fuel from the container to get you to a petrol station .

12 litres, 130 miles = 12 litres per 208km = 50mile per gallon, sounds about right to me.

Thanks all. I'd done the same maths as iooi but was surprised that it was telling me the bike's fuel warning light comes on when I've still got 50 miles/a gallon in there. I guess Suzuki are just giving me plenty of warning! I might try G's idea one day too, just to see if the maths really is right. Cheers all
