Course not Wink

(Actually I was referring to Craig riding on the wrong side of the road towards oncoming traffic and swerving in at the last second)

I've got to say when I was 16 and rode a dt50, I used to try and beat the bigger bikes and I still go round the wrong side of left only traffic islands if I need to (after a quick 'are there any police about?' inspection). I've heard you tell stories Mark about how you raced a Blade down the A4 while on your vfr. Tbh I think we all go for it a bit sometimes and competition does tend to impair judgement a bit.

There are a lot of bad scooter riders out there, but if one does pass me (which doesn't happen often) I generally take comfort in the fact that they've probably still not experienced there first crash and when they do they're riding style will probably calm down a bit.

I sold my TZR125R to a 17 yo who turned up in a white hoody, tracksuit bottoms with no gloves. I made a point of saying to him that he really should buy some protective gear, he responded "but it's only a 125", which made me chuckle, I pressed the point but there was no getting through to him. 2 days later I heard from his dad he had stacked it going into a corner and broke a few bones in his hand, prolly scuffed his nice white hoody too. Laughing

Dusty,
I did cough *race* cough a blade on the VFR, It wasn't down the A4 though... it was that road that goes to wallingford, you know past Child Beale.
I passed him because it was raining and he was shit scared of crashing. I was wearing protective gear and I wasn't going mad, I was just able to take the advantage in the conditions. I'm not even sure I broke the speed limit by much .
I accept that I have done things that are less than clever on a bike, However I have always worn Jacket, boots and gloves plus the obvious helmet.
And I've never tried to bait a fast bike with my mates in tow to impress them!!!
And I've never pissed off a biker who just wants to get home from work. Very Happy Wink

What do you want? a medal? You can't speed (and race may I add) in the rain and then tell others off for doing stupid things Confused

I wasn't racing. I just overtook him. It was bar room bragging that turned the encounter into a race.

I wasn't being stupid, I had tyres which were very grippy in the wet, a light bike with not much power versus a bloke who definitely wasn't racing who had obviously only owned the bike for a week and couldn't handle it.

He was shit scared, you could tell by his riding.

I might be the same if the situation was reversed. Plus the fact that it happened about three years ago or something.

Kris as I remember, you said that you like riding in the wet, so why can't I?? Smile

I overtook him at a skew bridge and we were both travelling at a maximum of about 40 MPH.

It then went to national speed limit and he never caught up.

His riding screamed BAB to me all over. Smile

Yes I was probably a fool for bragging about it, but I have never tried to overtake someone on the wrong side of a no right turn island with a bus oncoming, with two of my mates trying to keep up!

*edit*
Just read further up. Sorry I wasn't referring to anyone on here, I was referring to the three Nova wannabes that pi$$ed me off yesterday with their death wish riding. I had no idea about the incident in question so I won't comment on it. Smile

To be honest, I've got to admit I do try and keep up with/overtake bigger bikes. Not to impress my mates, although I probably would brag about it if I was successful. I wouldn't call it racing as that implies a all out type confrontation, but I would try to get past someone who was going slower than I am capable of going if I thought I could do so safely.

conversely, if there's someone behind me who is going faster than me, whether they are riding safely or not, on a scooter or a gixxer 1k, I'd just move over and let them past. If they've got a deathwish that's their problem, my only concern is that I don't get taken out. There's no shame in getting overtaken by someone on a scooter riding like an idiot (ok so maybe there's a bit of shame Laughing ).
