Coming home from work today I missed a 40mph camera. Went up to it at 47 indicated, jammed the brakes and was about 42 halfway over the marks. Got flashed definately once, I'm not sure about the second as the sun was behind my and in my mirrors by this point.
Kicking myself!
How long do I have to wait to find out, and if I was flashed twice, what can I expect? |

They have to send the NIP to normally arrive within 14 days. Doesn't actually have to arrive.
Good chance you speedo over reads by at least 5%, so your 47 was probably under 45mph, while the normal min amount before they prosecute is limit +10% +2mph (so 46mph).
All the best

I was told by a black-rat, the 10%+2 'guide-line' tends only to be used by police & 'mobile' cameras, but since the operation of the yellow exchecuer piggy-banks has been handed over to civilian contractors, and digitalised, they rarely use it.
Suggestion was, that since going digital, they dont have to pay for the film in the cameras or any-one to go collect it & process it. All goes straight down the wire to the control room where civvies process the tickets.
As such, they don't have to go through the CPS, they simply verify the reg-bo & camera prints, and load the reg-no into the computer & it automatically sends out the fixed penalty notice.
As most people plead guilty by default, as its cheaper than challenging the ticket, they very rarely have to justify why they set the cameras as they do, or worry about technicalities, like where the cameras is obscured by trees, or the repeater speed-limit signs aren't visible etc. (Like where they paint out the 50 markings on teh road, and dont get round to putting up 40 signs for a month, meanwhile they have reset the camera to the 40 limit)
It was also suggested that in known GATSO hot-spots, they often clock the cameras at just 10% over the speed limit, the minumum they are allowed to under thier calibration, so in a 30 limit, 33mph it clicks, 44 in a 40 etc, to up thier numbers.
SOME aren't clocked so tight, and some still dont ALWAYS have cameras in them, though they may still have a flash.
Also told that they dont always flash, but still take pics, even in the dark, using IR.
SO..... no garantees, depends on thecamera, where it was, who was using it, and whether it was a human interpreted camera or an automatic one, linked to the PNC where if it can read your number-plate clearly computer will send out the ticket without ANY human ever knowing about it.
Pretty much a lottery, I'm afraid.
As for speedo-accuracy.... yeah. Civic has a speedo that overreads by about 10-12%, according to two GPS sets, whose accuracy I'm never entirely certain of, since one told me my windowsill was doing 4mph round the block! But still.
Theres a few of those 'Slow 30!" radar activated flashing speed signs round me, couple of 40 ones too actually.
Silly game but always try to buzz them and find out exactly what speed they are tricggered at!
One, didn't flash at what the speedo said was 35, GPS said was 32, but did at 38(ish!) GPS 35.
Another, on the way to the G/F's vexed me for ages trying to get its calibration; was flashing "30 - TOO FAST!" every time I drove past it, even when I was doing an exact indicated 30 by the over reading chavic's speedo! Eventually got past it without it flashing at 'just' under an indicated 30 on the speedo, GPS reading 26.5mph!
Was warned by the rat, that 'it happens' with yellow revinue machines too...... they 'accidentally' set the trip 10% UNDER posted speed-limit...... revinue increases dramatically, hardly ANY-ONE challenges it, and if they DO.... its a 'system error'.
Any way, commisserations; hope for the best. Bit of luck they didn't get a clear scan of your reg and it will go to a human review and they'll not proceed with it, as its in the margin. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
