Let me explain. Starter motor won't turn it over. Bump starts fine. When the engines not running the headlight comes on as normal BUT.....the indicators don't flash. They come on weakly.

If the engine is running but on idle/low revs it does the same. higher revs the lights brighten and the indicators work.

So....reg/rec?

Could just be the battery, check its voltage, should be 12ish. Also check the voltage across the terminals with the engine running at about 4000 rpm, should be about 14-15 volts.

Also check the water level in it, if any of the cells are low top them up with distilled water and give it a charge, if it still won't hold a charge then you need a new battery.

Hi

Possably is the regulator / rectifier unit. Have you still got that spare? Also possible it is a totally fried battery or a fried coil or 2 in the alternator (I suspect that these actually might be more likely).

Stick a multimeter over the battery and check whether it is charging, and at what voltage (you know the drill). As the lights are getting brighter with revs it suggests that it is at least trying to charge.

Also check the connectors from the alternator up to the regulator / rectifier unit and then onto the battery.

All the best

Keith

I have the solution Colin....

Everyone, donate just £1 and you could help our beloved McJam on his way to getting a proper bike, more appropriate for his size and girliness (it needs to be pretty colours).

Right then, I've tested the battery voltage and I get 11.5v ish with the engine off and around 13.5v at around 5k.

Hi

Bit low. Would expect around 13.5 at not much over idle. However the voltage is going up which tends to suggest it is charging.

Personally I suspect the battery.

All the best
