Does that mean that if i go out without my lid on tonight then the police wont stop me?

Or if they do, I can just say I stole the bike!

Doesn't do the police any favours.
No wonder people think calling them is becoming a waste of time.

if they steal a bike without a helmet then the police should chase em and when doing 100+ nudge the back wheel!

should be the last time they get to nick anything :p

The media are twats for pretending to be shocked about this, when they gleefully report the police being investigated when stuff goes wrong in pursuits - like the idiots pulled over by specials in London last week, one of whom jumped over a level crossing barrier in front of a train and died.

The reporting of that incident makes it clear that the BBC et al want to blame the specials for his death - when it's clearly his fault.

Even the victim in the OP's posted story says he didn't blame the officers who attended, and that he realised they were pissed off too.

It is ludicrous, it is unfair, and it is being used by criminals to get away.

If someone would do something about the political civilians disguised as police officers who run most of the forces, we might be able to do something about it in the future.

I think that thieves should be accountable for any injury they sustain while being apprehended, not the police.

In some countries they cut their hands off.

Pursuits are often cancelled when it is believed to be too dangerous for members of the public - this is quite proper, as even one innocent MoP being wiped out by an ongoing pursuit is too many.

The perp should have no protection from his own actions under the law - but unfortunately this is not reflected in current legislation, hence the incredible policy of basically saying 'nope, they're simply too illegal to chase'.

I was watching Traffic Cops yesterday & the cops were following a stolen Fireblade (rider had a helmet) but they said bikes in general are off limits. They didn't say anything about a helmet.

It's ridiculous, that. As soon as you commit an offence like this, your safety should come last. First priority should be protecting the public (thats after all what police are SUPPOSED to do.. no that they do that very well.) second priority should be apprehending the thief and returning the stolen item to its owner. last should be the safety of the thief. if you think it's worth risking your life, steal the bike. but this is just urging people to steal bikes and telling them that they'll be allowed to ride off into the sunset!

Thumbs Up To the first comment. This SHOULD mean that we can all ride about lidless and then not get chased, then when we receive a letter about it, say the bike was stolen and it wasn't you.

I have been thinking about this ... and normally I dont do things like 'thinking' ... so excuse me if I have it all wrong.
But:
Its a national policy ... so will apply no matter where you are from.
Then I thought "but if I am on my bike and I commit a crime, they will have my number plate, even if they dont persue. ... and I will simply get collared later on"
Then I remembered someone saying that the fine/penalty for having no number plate is much less than for many motoring offences such as speeding etc.

Ergo: Dont bother getting a legal bike (insurance, mot etc), then ride with no plate and if you get 'noticed', just take your lid off and ride off scott free/bimble home whistling a catchy ditty.
I am more thinking of the illegal usage of off road bikes here ! Wink

Can someone point out the flaw in my cunning plan.

The eye in the sky.......

Also while they won't chase you. they may flood the area to spot and track you to your home address at which point I would not want to be in your boots Laughing

Bloody ridiculous.

I might as well rip my plate off and go for a joyride... would save me getting in trouble.
