Looking to sell the Monster and move to something else now but I don't know what. I want a sportsbike this time, which would you choose?

I don't want the fastest or most powerful one but something that would be a decent step coming from a 60hp V twin.

Thumbs Up

(for the poll) don't you mean 2003 onwards r6 the 03 and 04 model are the same,
05 is the revamp with usd forks, radials, less weight and slightly more power etc.

iv been looking a 749 my self, but all the reliability rumours put me of of making it my every day bike.

of the options there the c1h is the best spec for the money Wink Thumbs Up

The R6 which looks like the one craig23 and silky666 had.

I really really want a 749 and the servicing doesn't put me off but what does is that IF something does go wrong I might not be able to afford to fix it. That's why I was thinking of getting one of the others until the 848's drop down a little

if insurance isn't a problem, the 999 is a better deal.
they start at £4000 where the 749 is typically about £3500-£4000

you'd get some more go go with the show Wink

(ps - you work for duke?)

I like the RSV but won't it be too much of a jump? (They scare me for some reason Laughing

Working in a bike shop is quite fun but can also be boring sometimes. I'm working in parts and clothing, on my first day I had to clear out the stock room and it was like a gold mine!

+1 nice bike

RSV is too much for me. I could buy the ZX6 and it would be great to know it would start on the button even after sitting in the rain all day but then I'd see the 749 and be like Crying or Very sad

I'm not getting anywhere am I Laughing

Mate, as I was reading this, I was looking at a handful of RSV-R's all ohlins and marchesinis and they look MORE desirable than Honda SP1's-SP2's.

Nothing's too much of a jump. It's all about restraint. I'd say with all those years on the duke you would have weaned yourself on twins, so RSV-R is a natural progression. I am SERIOUSLY considering one (but wish I hadn't spent all that £££ on setting up and tuning my blade).

The RSVR is honestly no more of a handful than a modern 600 and inma straight line only marginally faster. It doesnt push you to go deep into three figures as its got no real performance at the top end.

Physically its rather tall and my mate with the brand new ZX6r was scared to sit on it! Other than that theres no reason to consider it too much of a step!

Ahhh dammit you guys have confused me even more! Laughing

I'll have to see one in the flesh first to see if it fits, the 749 is pretty much a perfect fit for me (i'm about 5'9ish and skinny) in fact it's lower than a ZX6

the rsv is physically quite a large bike,
(i dont know whether that will be a could or bad thing for you),
and its 60 degree twin with a closer firing order then the dukes 90 degree,

it is quite hard to say no to an exotic 1000cc for less £££ then a 600cc Drooling

The best thing is that I can sell my monster and buy an rsv without having to add any money

i'm going to be sooo pissed if the bike is too big/heavy Laughing

You chaps are making me question why I'm selling my RSV now!

I decided to go for the 03 (older shape) because the 04/05 newer shape RSV are known for having problems and at the time my budget would not stretch to the R version for that model. Also after riding both I found the earlier model to be allot more manageable, it is a big bike but has a very thin tank and low pegs for a sports bike, making it surprisingly comfortable for long journeys.

Now for some RSV porn.. mmmmm.

That said... what logan said about the 9R/Fireblade is still valid. Those were the bikes I was looking at on my budget last year. A tustle between 9R C/E/F or 929/954. 929s are good but 954's are better. But for that price, you can also get a 03 Mille R! I want to ride somebody's Mille to see if it can convince me to get a twin.
