YBR 125 - How to Lower?

Any advice on how i can lower the height of my YBR125 2007 bike for my missus to learn on?

Apart from reducing the seat height maybe i cant see how, perhaps aquiring an old seat and doing surgery on it.

As already said the only mod that you could do is to lower the saet by removing some of the foam and recovering, found this seat on ebay that would do the trick and would save you damaging your original seat, cheap @19.99 inc p/p.... item no 370 369 652 285.

A YBR isn't exactly the tallest machine out there...... how short is she?!?

Thought occurs that if she needs the seat lowering on a YBR, then she is going to be SEVERELY restricted by what 'Big' bike she might be able to ride after test...

That asside, though; back to basics, before doing anything drastic.

What adjustment have you got on the rear shocks?

Normally a twisty pre-load adjuster, and if they are set 'firm' becouse little bikes tend to be a bit pogo-ie, and or for a typically bulky bloke, then they are likely to be a bit firm for a virtically challenged lady, who possibly doesn't have as much mass to squash them.

Likewise forks. Probably no pre-load adjuster, but have they been serviced recently? Has any-one added 20cc of extra fork oil to stiffen them up? Could you drain and refill with say 5 or 10cc less to soften them up a bit?

While there, can the fork tubes be dropped in the yoke-clamps any?

Going down at the back will tilt the bike, lowering the front forks a bit will compensate, keeping the geometry right, and the bike level and give you a bit more 'drop' in the seat height.

After THAT, more dradtic, but possible to effect a drop by shortening the springs.

Fork springs and shock-springs, can be ground down a coil or so, to lower the whole bike, & can be 'tidier' than doing a seat, particularly if you have to take out enough foam that the cover bags. Also more comfy, if you have to take out so much that the foam is squashed against the base when you sit on it.

Cutting down a seat, old easy way of going anout it, BUT to do it neatly, rather than cutting a chunk out of the riders bum region, best way to do it is to get new, firmer foam, and re-make.

If you take foam off the bottom of the cusion, so it sits lower, depending on the profile of the seat, it can end up narrower so you end up with a step between the base & foam...

which CAN be corrected by quartering teh foam and moving it out in all four directions to get the nose, tail & edges right, but then awkward & messy stuffing teh trimmings into the gaps in between.

Better to re-make in new foam, so its still all one piece, ANd if you do it in a stiffer foam, you can take more out and not have it squashing so you sit on the seat base.

Between teh two, cutting down original foam, and using new, you can cut down original more than you want, then use thick closed cell under it to give a duel density cusion...... perms are I guess endless, but you get the idea!

The YBR is tiny as it is.

Have you considered dating an adult, if not, a PY50 is good for children up the age of 8-10 .

because of mike's tl;dr post there i'm not sure if this has been said, but on my CG, the rear shocks were adjustable, so i'm guessing the YBR is the same.

You could try putting them to a softer setting, so that it compresses a wee bit when she sits on it.

If she can get her toes down though, that's good enough

It's not the heaviest of bikes, so it shouldn't be too much of a challenge for her

She must be really small though, i'm 6'2" and i made my CG look like a minimoto.
