Hi guys, want to do a oil change on my Hornet this weekend.
Which oil do you recommend?
And for the filter, OEM or is there any good/cheap ones available.
I's for a Hornet 600cc 2004.
First time changing the oil so have no clue on this...

thanks Thumbs Up

Never had a prob with hiflo filtro and motul oil if youre using semi-synth. HOWEVER, if youre really wanting to treat your bike, go for a k and n filter and get silkolene fully synth oil. Looooovely.

I always use genuine honda filters from https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/ and use, yes you've guessed it, Silkolene fully synthetic.

People will say it's pointless, but I find that the oil pressure picks up far quicker when old starting and the top end is quieter. I'm so sold on it I just spent another £38 to buy 5L for my car.

https://www.opieoils.co.uk is the place I use for my oil. They have an offer on on motul oils atm, and also on some Silkolene stuff if your a member. Make sure you register as a member as you get a discount Smile

PS. I know i'm ranting about Opie Oils alot lately, no they don't pay me, I'm just a happy customer Very Happy

Thumbs Up Smile I love doing oil changes, very satisfying to do.

Hein Gericke mate, £20 for semi synth and oil filter thrown in for free, bargain

edit: dont waste money on an oil filter removal tool either, screwdriver stabbed through the middle does the job just fine, remember you only hand tighten them to begin with anyway so they arent difficult to get off

I did an oil change on my Hornet two days ago. Its a doddle. Don't bother with the tool, as bacon says, its a waste of money.

I got this:

https://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/productinfo/CASOFF1/Lubricants/4-Stroke-Oil/Castrol

The difference is noticeable in terms of smoothness and gear changes. Some members on the Hornets nest have advised against fully synthetic though Wink

Remember, the important thing to look for on the bottle isn't the API standard, but the JASO standard, as that is a specific standard made for bikes by jap manufacturers.

So anyting with the JASO standard on the label will be fine for a bike engine w/ wet clutch.

Hein Gericke are currently offering 4L of 10w40 semi-synthetic + "free" filter for £19.99 and there's a downloadable voucher for £10 if you spend £30 or more.
