There was a camera van with its back towards me, I was speeding on the approach before I realised what it was, by the time I realised it was a camera it will have easily had time to register my speed.

Will it have got my plate when I went passed it, even though I had slowed down by then?

It's whether the camera operator can be bothered to turn around and get your plate - then others will be bothered to try and prosecute when they haven't got your plate in picture to make it a bit harder.

Ah well, nice wait on my hands now then I guess.

If they got me as soon as I came around the corner it will be 85 in a 50, 6 points?

Sorry to be the carrier of doom Sad but a lot of the new camera vans have automatic forward facing cameras.

these also take a picture as you go passed (you are pictured twice)

that along with the operators say so will be enough to get you a letter through the post Sad

there was an article on BBC-LookEast about this a while back.

another tactic some forces are using, allegedly! is to have a bike/car at the next junction, engine running and ready to go.
the camera van operator will then radio through any that he has missed.
you go through the next junction and they are on your case before you know it Sad allegedly!

What would you think would happen in this situation? I was going along, and the van was just past the junction on the right hand side. Anyway, i think i was going too fast but darted into the junction so didnt pass the front of the van.

Cue paint diagram.

Sad bollocks.

I guess the only way to find out is to wait and see.

One of these fucking scamera's got me last Saturday. Same thing, parked around a corner, and it was hiding just before you hit a 50 limit, so no chance to slow down before it has you. Also i was in my van so it will have got my plate.
I was doing about 40 to 43 in a 30. Waiting for the letter now.

Since we're doing paint diagrams.

Red line is an annoying dip in the road which means you can only see the top of the van, couldn't tell what it was until I was over the hump.

85 in a 50 would actually be a court summons and probably a ban, but with mitigating circumstances then you may get 6 points instead especially if the speed limit was one of the ones recently lowered from 60 to 50 (as most NSL single carriageways are being reposted).

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it though as it's extremely unlikely they'd have got you at your maximum speed, the camera vans actually take your speed quite close to where they are parked, there's usually a couple of lines painted on the road showing you where they're zeroed in on. I've personally not seen any with apparent front facing cameras either but as bikers are an obvious issue with anything front facing I wouldn't be surprised if they have now got something to solve that problem.

I went past one last year, dual carriageway, then a 50 zone, slight bend, and the scamera was on the inside of the exist of the bend. I looked down and saw 74 on the clock. By then it was too late so I just closed the throttle and pulled the clutch in and stealthed my way past. Seemed to work too, no NIP or summons. Thumbs Up

Sorry to dig up an old thread - I've just had a similar experience on my way home this evening - Van on the A50 in Toft near Knutsford. It's a 60mph zone - can't say for definate what I was over by but saw it at the last minute and I was travelling *ahem* quite quickly.

As far as I could tell only seemed to have a rear facing camera pointing at front of bike (I went back past it later to check) - anybody any wisdom to impart whilst I have the 14 day countdown to doom?

Could you stop before and just back peddle to a junction and do off?

I did the same thing a few months ago (not the one I got banned for) came round a corner at about 40 and there was a camera pointing straight up the road towards me, I slammed on and rode at 30 past it and had a quick look as I went past over my shoulder.

Didn't hear anything of it...

Don't go past it, keep your plate away from it, and turn around, if you really don't want to get ANPR'd or flashed, and can't turn your back on it out of view, ride past it with your hand/garment/other item over your plate, leave the area fast, and don't ride again with the same lid or clothes.

For the sake of a few points and a fine, I'd rather not replace all of my riding gear Mr. Green .

Thanks for replies...

There was no obvious way to turn off before I passed the van as I was nearly on top of it before I realised he was there (the sneaky git was pulled into the verge and partially hidden).

3 days down - not heard anything yet

It will depend whether it was the new type that has forward facing camera's on the sides and windscreen.
