Hello

Well iam in process of ordering all parts for a redoing the Honda Cg engine to get back to good condition.

After stripping engine down the piston rings was knackered and very lose, and Cam looks fine and un damage.

Got the New piston Rings ( on order )
New Drums back and front ( on order )

But iam stuck on the sprockets, iam given 2 options on the David silver website Front 15T or 14T and for the rear 40T or 41T

which one should i pick and how much difference does 1 tooth make ?

Thanks

For owners that don't know what Cg i got :

Model BR-J 1989

For a CG, get the bigger front and the smaller back - gives you a bit more of a top speed so it's not screaming away at 55 as much as it normally would Thumbs Up

Blue, the plug is black and wet looking and it needed a top-up so it has to be oil.

The gearbox noise was in every gear and neutral, only stopped with the clutch pulled in so it has to be something on the input shaft?

One way to find out... Strippy strippy Neutral It has been properly abused in the past I think.

As above, your piston rings are buggered.

You could fit the 150cc conversion for it!

Dont think you can put a 150 straight into a 125 cg ?

ill take your advice bigger front and the smaller back, it does scream at 50mph - 55mph and feels like i need a 6th gear.

A CG150cc can be bought in many countries but not the U.K although they can be imported, the 150cc version has 6 gears but is very buzzy as a result.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-cg150-cylinder-block-Replacement-cg125-Enhance-/270615674719?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts

Might work out cheaper, and give you just a touch more power?

Would give you slightly more acceleration than the 125 when you change the sprockets.

Didn't you ride around an X9 without L-plates? hence if you were caught, that's 6 points?

Anyway, the 150 barrell won't get you in trouble unless you have an unbelievably bored copper who happens to stick his head in behind the block and see the '150cc' stamp...

Fixed Thumbs Up

It's a Chinese casting, it may or may not arrive with the capacity marked Wink

First hurdle
CG125 barrel external diameter = 62.5mm
CG150 barrel external diameter = 68.0mm/internal 62.0mm

Crank case hole is supposedly 64mm so will need opening out by 4mm.

Early engines like mine (Pre 2001) apparently do not have the oil way close by so this is possible Thumbs Up

Bigger front and smaller back will dull your acceleration. You were saying a while back that you didn't have enough acceleration on the mod 1. I'd re-think that if you want to do a retake on the same bike.

Stick with the standard bore. 25cc more is not going to give you a lot more power, particularly if it means butchering the crankcase to make it fit. This means stripping the engine to empty the case. If you're anything like me (althought I hope to God you're not), you'll decide to change all the bearings in the engine and have the cases vapour blasted while you're at it.

200 quid later you have an engine that cost you the earth wearing a cheap, chinese made barrell that's going to fail in 1000 miles. You could have spent the money on a lesson and a school bike for the test, and sold the CG for the same as its worth after a rebuild (by you).

A bike with a rebuilt engine should be worth more. It won't be if the buyer talks to you and finds out just how little you know about the engine you rebuilt.

My kit came with 14 on the front and 41 on the rear, DID chains are about the best you will get Thumbs Up

Robby
If I go ahead with this 150 conversion it will be for me, not to make money on the sale of the bike although it cost less than £400 so selling it for more with all the bodges I've corrected would not be difficult.
I also try not to bore (pardon the pun) folk about engines, apologies if I come across as a dumbass but I have been playing with engines from about 3cc to 6000cc for nigh on 15 years, even a spell building engines for a living Thumbs Up

Edit, after a chat with my insurers it will be staying 125, not like my car policy where they don't care what I do to it as long as they know (classic car policy)... Arse Thumbs Down
