Some years ago the scum that run my city closed down our wonderful Museum of Science and Industry. I had loved this place for all of my life and knew every exhibit like the back of my hand some prize items were moved to the new "Think Tank"at Millennium Point but the rest disappeared from my life.
When I petitioned the council they told me that the collection was in storage in a warehouse I did not believe them but today I visited the warehouse as they had an open day ( they have two a year but it is not publicized)
These are some of the items owned by the people of Birmingham but hid from them.

I'm presuming you intended to post images? I'm willing to believe in the plight of the people of Birmingham, but I require tangible proof, damn it!

I went there when I was at primary school. Obviously I don't remember much of it but I did like it! Laughing

The Think Tank looks nice and fancy but there really isn't a great deal there. Could you let me know when the next warehouse open day is please? I'd love to have a look.

Was that the one that was right next to the canal (I think near the BT tower?)? It had a huge steam locomotive in a hall that shifted forward a couple of meters once an hour or something, and I believe it had a science room at the top, there was a chair that you sat in and held a spinning wheel, some kind of gyroscopic/centrifugal thing so that the faster the wheel span the faster you turned in the chair.... Or something like that. I also believe there was a long tube that stretched across the length of the room and you could talk to people on the other side through it..... Christ it's been years since I last stepped in there, was always a good place to take the missus. The think tank thing is mediocre, but the science museum had character.

I remember that place. I used to love ths spinning balls governor thing when I was a kid. However I went again when I was a teenager, and I was bored to tears to be honest.

Please do, or if you remember then throw me a PM (I rarely go into the Mids forum). Been wanting to go to an open day for a couple of years, only ever seem to hear about them the week after though. I tried signing up for the newsletter but even that has proven less than useful Confused

Is the Art Museum with the mummies and the giant T Rex still open? Those two places were a big part of my under privileged childhood along with stickleback fishing in the cut.

Yeah I think you mean the Art gallery across from the central library, though the last time I checked the Egyptian section it was closed for renovation, for 2 years, which was about a year and a half ago,'I think they were doing a mythical monsters thing in the basement recently, which was ok but not worth the £10pp entry fee, which is why I was glad I knew the girl on the counter and she let me and the missus in for free Thumbs Up

My grandad donated a Lambeg drum to our local museum and though I was brought up hearing about it and seeing photos of it, I've never seen it in the flesh as it's not been on display in my lifetime that I know of.
