.....so i went for a test ride on a BMW S1000RR about 2 weeks ago. It had the traction control, abs and....a quickshifter! It was great fun.

Anyway, couldn't afford a BMW and the insurance wouldn't have been practical either so I went for a 2008 Fireblade. Now i'm thinking of getting a quickshifter fitted.

Now I'm aware its a complete extravagance and for general road use its not exactly something that going to get used all the time. But as summer is coming and i'm going to be blasting around more regularly, I KNOW I'd enjoy a quickshifter!

If anyone has any experience with quickshifters or have any general thoughts, it would be greatly appreciated.

I vote for one of these:

Ok, it's a fair chunk of money, but you also get an ok traction control system (note it's not 'real' traction control based on wheel speeds, it's done on increase in engine speed and gear), quickshifter and power commander style thingy all in one.

Stick a second hand full system on your bike, air filter etc and you might be starting to get closer to stock BMW power levels, but still for a fair bit less cash I presume.

Oh and I'm only suggesting it as I'd like to see how well it works Smile.

[edit]One of these looks interesting, similar but a lot less money, ok it's not including the quickshifter it's self, but you can add on one..

I have a translogic qs2 system does what is says on the tin. do i need it? no. would i be without it .....no Smile once you go the quickshifter route i dont think you ever go back, the translogic is "universal" so can be put on any bike, i have had mine for 2 years and never had a problem

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm going to make a few more calls and see what prices they come back with.

Thanks again.

Anybody worried about fitting a quickshifter or other accessory that may interfere with the general runnings of the bike?

I'm beginning to think...."do i want to start adding non standard bits to my newish blade that potentially adds risk of failure of standard bits of the bike (clutch, ignition system, gearbox, eletronics...etc)"

I dunno, maybe i'm getting cold feet....thoughts?

Clutch: you'll actually save some wear on.
Ignition system: at the very worst, anything you should do should be undone by taking it off.
Gearbox: It should actually make it a bit better I believe, as it forces the changes to be when it's definitely not under load.
Electronics: possibly, but unlikely if using proven components I'd say, unlikely still otherwise, as most are sensibly enough designed that they shouldn't do damage so worst case you just remove and put it back to how it was.

my quickshifter has never given me cause for concern about creating any extra load on any of the other parts, my nitrous system gives me cause for concern Smile but hey ho

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm gonna speak to some shops next week and see what they come back with.

I'm feeling like my confidence about getting a quickshifter is returning.....

Thanks again.
