Brake calliper dust seal conundrum

Hi folks,

My compulsive obsessive nature is starting to get the better of me, so I'd better post this before I go quietly insane! Whilst doing a brake calliper seal change, I noticed a circlip in the groove where the dust seal sits inside the calliper itself, long after I had got rid of the old dust seal. Now, there's no mention of this circlip in the Haynes or Yamaha service book at all (all it says is to 'make sure the dust seal is properly installed'), so I'm wondering if I installed the dust seal correctly with the clip compressing the outermost segment of it into the calliper groove, which would seem the logical way of holding it in and creating a good seal. I've attached a rough mock-up diagram to show what I mean. Ta!

The clip should push the seal into the groove on the caliper, to stop it popping out when the pistons are extended.

To save opening another thread for a similar question:

I'm installing new seals in my callipers tonight, what did you use to lubricate them?

Haynes says use brake fluid but yamaha have sent me some red stuff with the new seals (red rubber grease?).

That's what I was thinking so just kinda smear the seals in it before I pop them back into the calliper?

I smeared brake fluid on my seals as they didn't come with any grease, but I do use rubber grease on the sliders and dust boots that cover them. Brake is now working fantastically as well. Thumbs Up

I got fed up with paying a fortune for miniscule sachets of red rubber grease so I recently invested in a 500g tub from Opie Oils. Just rebuilding my FireBlade callipers right now.
