Yes.

I'm just down the A444 from you, and heading out this way, plenty to have a crack at.

I do them mostly in a Range-Rover tho', & the DT's not streeted yet, so cant really offer to take you on a guided.

But CAN offer some good advice.

First up, join the TRF, the Trail Riders Fellowship

Read thier code of conduct on the trails. Green-Lanes are NOT free MX practice tracks, and it is NOT off-Roading.

Green-Lanes are public roads, and you need a road legal bike, and you need to ride it in accordance with all traffic laws; only difference is they dont have tarmac on the surface.

Next up; you need to be TRIPPLE bludy sure that when you head up a dirt-track it IS actuallya legal rideable right of way, not a bridle-path, foot-path or private access road.

Not ONLY do they need to be legal routes, they also need to be 'open'; lots of green-lanes get TRO'd, (Closed) often for long periods, so they can 'recover' from being churned up.

This means that IF you go out with some-one who offers to 'show you a few trails', you need to be pretty damn confident that THEY are taking you up legal routes, and that they are whats known as 'status confirmed' at the time of riding, which basically means that the legal status has been checked and confirmed rideable for the day you ride them.

BEST info is avaiolable to TRF & GLASS Members, the representative clubs for Bikes & 4x4's respectively.

You can join either as a private member, or join a bike or 4x4 club that has affiliate membership. This gives access to the Trailwise data-base that basically lists all Status Checked green-lanes in the country that members have recorded and added entries for.

The 'usual' trails round our way for a first timer are the Twycross trails out around the zoo.

Not TOO challenging, though this year a bit squelchy and over-grown in places. Main worry is over-use, cutting up the surface, and the odd native moaning we shouldn't be there, and occassionally blocking the tracks, with big rocks, or trees and things.

BUT, un-written rule, you dont do trails on your own. & certainly not as a first timer.

In the 4x4's its so theres always another vehicle to tow you out of the hole when you get stuck, on bikes, its so if you break your leg, SOME-ONE knows you have broken your leg and can go get help!

So, while I could give you directions; I wont, best advice is, to point you at the TRF, join them, & use the trailwise forum to find a trail-budy, or club in the district where you'll find a trail buddy; one that you can have some confidence in they'll only take you down legal, status confirmed trails, AND who's reasonably experienced, AND 'responsible' riding to the code.

Addage is 'as slow as possible, as fast as necessary', and to try NOT to annoy the natives too much....
