Can anyone recommend some good films they have seen for me to watch, I want to "rent" a couple to keep me occupied as I'm in bed feeling unwell.

Thanks
Thumbs Up

The Road
Kick-Ass
Street Kings
Brooklyns Finest

Moon: watched last night: excellently atmospheric and weird
Requiem For A Dream: disturbingly good - emphasis on the distubing
The Fountain: Brilliantly weird (only watch if you can stand Hugh Jackman)
(Above three all have music by Clint Mansell - best OST creator...)
Garden State: Sweet n weird
Moonlight Mile: very human
Finding Neverland
Seven Pounds: More interesting and powerful than I expected.
Elizabethtown: very american, but some great music, and darkly comic moments (freebird in flames...)
Mirrormask: dreamworldy
V For Vendetta: viva la revolution
District 9: yo' fuckin' prawn
District 13: proper freerunning action, not like Casino Royale's...
The History Boys: witty
Amistad: Djimon Hounsou is great (also see The Four Feathers: "You laugh like an Englishman")
Black Hawk Down
Tropic Thunder: "You never go full retard.."
Equilibrium: "Be careful Preston. You're treading on my dreams."
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Constantine

= DVDs I can see from where I'm sitting.

The entire Studio Ghibli catalogue.

Lots of films form the 40s, 50s and early 60s:

Casablanca
Dial M for murder
Strangers on a train
Double indemnity
The Maltese falcon
The 39 steps
North by North West

Or just go to Amazon, look up Casablanca, and watch any of the recommendations. I've been watching a lot of old films recently. All of the modern Hollywood stuff is so generic, you know exactly what's about to happen and you can predict most of the lines. There is the occasional gem, but its mostly multi million dollar shite.

So far watched The Felon and The Road, both I thought were very good so cheers Misc, the latter is somewhat depressing although it's probably a more realistic and less romantic view of a post apocalypse world unlike every other movie.

It's not about cats but there are cats in it. IMDB page for August Underground’s Mordum, it's a good film so you should download it. Mr. Green

Try Avalon - not the one about King Arthur, the one that's about Polish video gamers that's directed by Mamoru Oshii.

It's odd.
Also, give Valhalla Rising a shot - it's kind of like Heart of Darkness, with Vikings, as written by Samuel Beckett, with the cinematographer from The Seventh Seal. Very cryptic, very obtuse. Nice scenery, though, and Mads Mikkelsen looks utterly bonkers throughout.

I watched In Bruge on the telly at the weekend, not a massive fan of Colin Farrel but it was a good film in which he was pretty good too.

Someone mentioned Stand By Me too, watched that at the weekend. I didn't shed a tear, no I did not.

I can't watch anything with Americans being heroic in it, I just choke. I can't see past the notion that Americans will watch it and think its all based on a true story or a documentary.

Thumbs Up
