Hidden Figures

great all around movie set in the early 60's about a trio of black female mathematicians that worked for NASA and their struggle for equal rights and their contribution to the space race

really enjoyed it and as a NASA / Space buff it was of interest to me
well worth a watch
also a good one to watch with the Mrs

9/10 Thumbs Up

Sicario - 7/10

FBI, CIA, Mercs, Mexican drug Lords

Had some fantastic bits, but also plenty of slow paced, dragged out scenes as well as some WTF.

Good film, could have been excellent.

Hunt For The Wilderpeople - 8/10

Yeah, another typical Kiwi film of quirky rebellion and feelgood with dodgy vowel inflection.

I liked it.
Those are so typical of NZ people.
Also, that they had called the ute "Crumpy" (it's a Kiwi joke, really).
Pleased to see Sam Neill returning to his roots.
Not seen him in a kiwi film since Sleeping Dogs, I don't think.

Another film in the same gruff comedic nature (in case anybody is interested in watching it) is called The Insatiable Moon, very good.

Sausage Party

Why did I watch this?
Didn't cut the mustard with me.

Old school scary slasher type movie, very much on par with the 1st SAW film. Really enjoyed it, good entertaining film, surprises and twists and turns.

Would be interested in what RHYNOCZ thinks?

I gave it a go, it was quite fresh. Not to spoil it for anyone, it did contain the classic horror film features, a lot of them. I haven't skip a scene, although they could work with the tension a bit more gradually, either way, I'd say a quite solid 7/10, would be adequate. Unknown, at least to me, actors also made the film better.

The begining of the film was actually perfect (I had no idea what to expect), the middle was also good, but the ending was very predictible, you could tell what's going to happen the moment they got to the swings in the backyard (not to spoil it, won't tell you what happened there).

Also, did they change the camera crew and/or the director during shooting the film? I mean the camera angle and close ups, for instance through the lock of the main door and then on several places.

I think I'm gonna recommend this film to a friend of mine, she never answers the phone when there's no ID or a unknown number calling. This would really make her stay up all night.

*SPOILER, sort of: Firearms safety, right?

Was having a bit of a Royal evening on Netflix last night:

The King's Speech 9/10
Didn't think much of Tim Spall's Churchill, and I usually like Tim Spall - but the very do-able Helena B-C as the Queen (Mum) was quite good, although I may be biased. The lovely Colin Firth looking nothing like his usual fanciable self, but well acted as a frustrated stutterer George VI.

A Royal Night Out 8/10
In fact, returning to the subject of the Queen (Mum), this queen mum played by Emily Watson was especially stroppy. Fun times for the princesses. Apparently it really happened, but probably not quite exactly as portrayed in the film Smile

I watched it yesterday and it was horrible. The killer had almost supernatural powers to control electricity and the home appliances. It couldn't stop rolling my eyes. The characters were idiots so you don't care about them. On top of that the killer left the wrong one - as the one he actually had a gripe with was the one that should've been made to suffer. Entire film was trash.

I liked it.

Particularly the story between Lavash and Bagel, who got past their hatred for each other thanks to hummus.

I didn't expect much and I haven't gotten much. If you look at similar films, they are all stupid, full of plot holes and main characters breaking all the rules, seemingly having supernatural powers, eventhoug the film is set in the real world. Basically all the ''*straight to vhs/dvd/br'' films.

This one was above average in the category*.

What I would rate as trash:
The worst film of the ''*straight to vhs/dvd/br'' horror films, that I would not even rate, was the Hold Your Breath (2012) with Katrina Bowden. I thought alright, a cute well known blonde in a horror film, I haven't even seen the trailer for it. Well, I was laughing and scratching my head at the same time. I mean, imagine you being a movie producer and someone brings you such script. TL; DR: A film, that was so bad, they had to use nudity and softcore porn to at least have something to put into the trailer. Not even gonna comment the questionable CGI.

IMDb says 3.2/10: A group of friends on a weekend camping trip find themselves being picked off one by one when one member of the group refuses to abide by the urban myth that you can breathe in evil spirits when passing cemeteries.

Army of One - 5/10

Apparently a true story of a 'merican man, who decided to find and capture Bin Ladin. I must admit, this was not the worst film Nicolas Cage ever did. It had its moments and being a true story helped, at least a bit. The film even reminded me of Leslie Nielsen slapstick comedy films, to a certain extent.

The Founder - 7/10

Story of McDonalds and how it all started and progressed... if it's true to events, it was a very interesting film and I like Michael Keaton, he's not in many things these days.

Doctor Strange - 7/10

I really enjoyed this as well, loved all the CGI effects of buildings and cities morphing with kaleidoscopic effect. Also loved the idea of a dark realm and multi verses.

I did as well, I'll have to watch a non-pirate copy (as in not filmed in a cinema) to really enjoy the CGI Smile

John Wick:Chapter 2 - 9/10

More penatration than 51 shades of Ghey Laughing
Hugely entertaining with fluid action scenes & a fully developed & imersive "World". Beautifully shot, amazing choreography with great supporting cast.

If you enjoyed the first film, this will not disappoint.

Independence Day: Resurgence

5/10 - Absolutely terrible sequel. Belongs on the sci-fi channel. Scary alien invaders get too much screen time. Totally detracts from the 'scary hostile creatures' aspect. They've been anthropomorphised.

Underworld: Blood Wars

3/10 - Apparently these moves used to be good but I was never keen in the first place.

Honestly I don't understand how people can get the funding for some of the shite that comes out these days. They must have friends in the right places, or lots of their own money to throw around.

Despite receiving generally negative reviews from critics, the five films have grossed a total of $528 million, against a combined budget of $212 million

That's why, if people watch shite they'll keep on making it.

Arrival - 9/10

A solid movie, A little headfucky towards the end when it all slots into place which made it a 9 out of 10 instead of a 7 for me.
