Jack Reacher - Never Go Back (1/10)

Had to watch it as I love the Jack Reacher series. Tom Cruise is not fucking Jack Reacher...

Quote:
JACK REACHERS APPEARANCE IN THE BOOKS
- Reacher is a giant standing at 6' 5" tall (1.96m) with a 50-inch chest, and weighing between 210 and 250 pounds (100–115 kg).
- He has ice-blue eyes and dirty blond hair.
- He has very little body fat, and his muscular physique is completely natural
- Reacher is strong enough to break a man's neck with one hand and kill a villain with a single punch to the head or chest
- In a fight against a 7 foot, 400 lb steroid-using thug, Reacher was able to lift his opponent into the air and drop him on his head.
- Reacher has various scars

Does that sounds like Tom Cruise to anyone else? Lee Child is a sell out.

I think they should have cast Ray Stevenson as Reacher who is actually ex-forces.

(no-one will probably give a shit about this post but it's been bugging me so quite cathartic to get it out.)

Anyway, film is crap, actors seem to be running constantly, I've not even finished the film yet but I don't hold high hopes.

I lcannot stand watching most films with Tom Cruise in. Thumbs Down

I've not read the books, but I lost interest in the film halfway through and left it on in the background while I fucked about on Factorio

Watched Gerald's Game this afternoon in glorious 4k SUHD.
Another "based on the book of Stephen King".

Liked it. Interesting. Worth a watch, in my opinion.

Netflix if you have it, piracy of your choice if you don't Razz

Southpaw 4/10 - Donnie Darko becomes a boxer and gets pimped out by 50 Cent. It's not very good, watch The Fighter instead.

Well I did try, but Sleeping Then again I don't know of any film that follows a novel it's based on.

They're both on my to watch list when staring into space is no longer an option. I'll scratch off Southpaw then.

Depends on how closely you mean follow, but some that I've read the book and seen the movie:
Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me - Different Seasons (short stories)
The Green Mile - The Green Mile
The Harry Potter movies - The Harry Potter books
The Lord Of The Rings movies - the books
Trainspotting - Trainspotting
The Acid House - The Acid House
Filth - Filth

That's just a few that have (in my opinion) stayed close to the book and only changing some things..... but then you have stuff like Porno, The Dark Tower or even The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy that only share character names with the original stories.....

It's like saying movie reboots are better than the original movies Rolling Eyes

Imo Trainspotting is nothing like the book. Which is why I thought it was absolute shit.

Very occasionally they're. The Fly for example (although I like the original as well).

Cardboard Gangsters - 6/10

* The score is in relation to British gangster films and the bar would most likely be Lock Stock / Snatch

This is set in Ireland and the main guys have strong Irish accents. I'm usually good with them but I struggled to work out what they were saying in parts.

Overall, it wasn't half bad. Sure it wasn't no Lock Stock, there was no real humour or clever plot lines but it was acted well enough to not be garbage.

Worth a watch if you're in to the genre Thumbs Up

The Night Before 6.5 / 10

(Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon Levitt & Anthony Mackie)

I didn't expect much from it, a standard Seth Rogen type film... it was a bit meh! for the first half, but the second half I found funny. Very easy trashy type film to watch. One of the better ones.

Woah! Hold on - I really enjoyed Southpaw. It wasn't amazing, but it was decent. Having said that, I haven't seen The Fighter yet. I'd say give it a try, but watch them in that order Smile

I took the good lady for a cinema night on Saturday. We watched...

The Snowman

The new Jo Nesbo book adaptation. I have the book but haven't got round to reading it yet (I'm working through the series in order) but the trailer looked good, Fassbender is reliably solid and we've seen almost everything else thats on. The film itself looks pretty, has a solid story and great acting, but I was let down. Coming out of the cinema afterwards, the trailers were playing on screens, and half of the stuff in the trailers isn't in the film.
Worth a watch, but a little disappointing (for me) 7/10

Double Date

I'm not sure where, but I saw the trailer for this and because it was due to start 10 minutes after The Snowman, we went and watched this. Home grown comedy horror where a 29 year old virgin is promised by his gobshite mate that he will lose his virginity before his 30th (at the weekend). They end up meeting and arranging a date with two sisters who are secretly serial killers.
It seemed to be very low budget, but the gobby mate was excellent comic relief, a lovely cameo by Dexter Fletcher and it had most of the other people in the cinema (about 15 people all in) in stitches.

7.5/10

Blade Runner 2049 - 07/10

I've read the books, seen the first film. It was too long and the music was too loud. Apart from that, not to bad. If you don't like the first film you most probably won't like this.

Brawl in Cell Block 99
7/10

A former boxer-turned-drug runner lands in a prison battleground after a deal gets deadly.

It's a decent watch.

Was that Ludacris? I thought they've all been shit (maybe different shades of shit) since the first one and maybe Tokyo Drift. Somehow I always end up watching them Rolling Eyes

Exposed starring Keanu Reeves

2/10 - mostly incomprehensible garbage with the odd glimpse of an interesting film.

I noticed in the end credits it was called Daughter of God, according to Wiki the film was dramatically re-cut and reedited and renamed to suit the backers. Might have been less garbage then.

The French Connection.

Proper '70s cop film. My favourite Gene Hackman performance.
Based on a true story. Gonna try and find the second one.

8/10

The Snowman

Not the walking in the air one but the thriller by Jo Nesbo. Quite possible the worst film I have ever seen. I really like Michael Fassbender and also Val Kilmer, this was a real let down. In a word; Boring. I would not go and pay good money to see this at the movies. Maybe online or a rental if you must. 1/10 and that is being kind.

Shooter 4/10

Rewatched on a whim, and it's worse than I remembered. Marky Mark ain't that funky, Kate Mara is nothing but diner waitress hair in a push-up bra, and the total lack of chemistry between them makes their scenes feel like a Weinstein private script reading.

On that, the lusciously louche Rhona Mitra is sadly under-used and the sub-plot with her sexist bosses isn't resolved. I was genuinely triggered. Maybe I'm Progressing.

Even Danny Glover doing shome bishare accshent can't rescue what turns out to be a pretty basic, unsatisfying premise.

tl;dr version - the TV series is better, and that ain't great.
