Star wars the last jedi
I enjoyed the film. It was a lot of fun.
Spoiler
There was an asian cast(rose).
And I didn't think she was beautiful. (rather a funny fat comedian type)
But she played kiss scene. (as if they thought they can move audience).
This annoyed me. I want to see Rey's kiss scene but Not rose.

edit : it wasn't only me who hated rose
https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/7k44he/i_really_did_not_like_the_character_of_rose/

Hacksaw Ridge - 6/10

Action movie masquerading as a war movie.

Religious conscientious objector finds way to go to into the thick of war without having to kill anyone.

Abundant god-fearing, bible-loving, made-right-in-the-USA, "we all love our country and can fight even if we don't want to" undertones.

Turns out it was about a real guy, so hats off to him. Shit movie anyway. That was obvious from the point we were introduced to Vince Vaughan playing the angry bootcamp sergeant. Lots of emotive music and slow-mo explosions; a classic symptom of a director who has no idea how to make a scene work.

Will definitely not watch again.

Atomic Blonde 8/10

Twisty plot, epic fight scenes and Charlize Theron. A fairly brutal piece of fiction about the spy game in Berlin at the point the wall was falling.

I really enjoyed it, especially the stunt work and the fight scene in the stairwell.

Watch it.

VICE (1/10) AVOID!

Bruce Willis's worst ever film, until footage of him beating a disabled child to death surfaces. This film should have died hard on the cutting room floor.

A tale based on similar principles of Westworld, but the acting is worse than any semi-synthetic lifeform could achieve.

Given the number of gun related deaths in America, you'd have thought they were quite good marksmen/women, but of the thousands of bullets fired at the female lead, none hit.

The good cop role, complete with cool car (which would never get signed off with tax dollars), was woefully carried out by some matchstick chewing parodical fairground mirror of the worst 80's cheesey rogue detective character.

Nobody gave a single fuck when they made this, I turned it off after 30 mins, probably 20 of those I was talking through.

I'd give the female lead one, hence the score.

Jumanji Welcome to the jungle

Actually a fun little film, Dwayne the rock proving he can act (a little). Enjoyable film that delivers. Lots of 'never heard of actors' apart from The Rock and Jack Black. Good family film, worth a watch, maybe not a re-watch but a single viewing most definitely. 8/10

Hmm... I really liked the original Jumanji (as a kid), I've been purposely avoiding this. I might give it a go and bill you for my time if you're wrong Wink

I saw the new Jumanji also. I really wasn't bothered, but happy to look at Karen Gillen for an hour and a bit.

Turns out to be a more than half-decent reboot of the original. (If you have 5 minutes, check out Cinema Sins' "Everything Wrong with Jumanji on Youtube"). Very tongue in cheek, decent visuals, script is passable and even Jack Black was ok. The Rock and Kevin Hart make a good pairing.

7/10

Baby Driver (again).

Got it for Christmas, and decided that my lad should watch it.
With his Aspergers, usually watching a film with him can be irritating as he will keep asking questions. Not this time. Just sat and watched, loved the action sequences and picked up on the synced soundtrack / set pieces. Brilliant film. 9/10

it was an okayish film, in reality I believe the dude just signed up to be a medic, and they said yeah sure didn't try and bounce him out, he really did save all those people of course, but not sure he did it quite the way it was shown

what I took from it, is that if I had a time machine and found myself enlisting in 1940s USA, the Army looks easier than the marines!

Bladerunner 2049

Watching it at the momemt. So far, so boring. Confused Confused

IIRC he saved people over several days, the film made it seem shorter.

I never even finished it, partly due to Ryan Gosling and his amazing acting range.

EDIT: appears I'm not the only one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqs7857hksM Laughing

Logan Lucky - 6.5/10

It was alright, funny in places, nothing that new really.

It was like taking an Ealing crime caper from the 50's and adding modern southern red neck to it.

But, yeah, worth a watch.

Free State of Jones.

8.5/10.

Came across this as it's free on Amazon Prime, but I was actually quite impressed.

Story covers a Southern farmer turned confederate deserter turned rebel leader turned civil rights advocate between 1862 and 1870ish. I think it's loosely based on a real story.

Acting is generally very solid, especially the lead guy and the story is engaging. Decent budget as well. Pretty long (2hrs20ish), but doesn't drag on.

Does get a bit heavy handed with the 'race' elements later on, but all in all a pretty solid depiction of an interesting period of history, and not one which is extensively covered in the UK ('Muricans, your mileage may vary).

Would watch again, may buy a blu-ray copy with real money. Worth a couple hours of your life.[/b]

Forbidden Daughters 1927 : 9/10

Early porn. Cracking tale of adventure as Alva travels to the heart of the African continent to rescue her beau from the clutches of some tart of a Queen.

Could do with an updated soundtrack. Goldie Lookin Chain perhaps? Its on YouTube and possibly safe for work Laughing

Its only 13 minutes long, but I guess that's all you need. Embarassed

The Greatest Showman

I got dragged to see this as the mrs wanted to watch it, the lad was with us and everything else worth seeing was either a higher age rating than he is allowed to watch, or we'd already seen it.

It was a lot better than I expected. The same musicians did the score for this that also did the LaLaLand soundtrack.
The story was good, cinematography was unreal, and the choreography was impressive. Strong 8/10, pushing 9.

Last night, we stuck a film on through NowTV, The Infiltrator.

Bryan Cranston plays a Customs agent working undercover to infiltrate the drugs and banking scene in 80's Florida. Really interesting, and a good film to watch alongside American Made (more comedic than this) as the films sort of intertwine. Interesting, well made and has the right pacing. 8/10

All the Money in the World
An interesting look back at recent history, when the kidnapping of JP Getty's grandson happened (in fact he was kidnapped on my 12th birthday!) and so I barely remember it other than the grossness of his ear being cut off.

As it was based in Italy I enjoyed it, familiar scenery, etc., but also that it was a little peep into just how the rich actually are so very different than us.

I'd give it 7.5/10 for having an interesting real-life story to it.

Alien Covenant 6/10

Ticked most the boxes, was okay, bit pedestrian in places. David/Walter androids stole the show, other bits all very samey.

Probably doesn't help that I'm quite fuzzy on Alien lore, and have seen the films too far apart, and not necessarily in the correct order, either chronologically or sequentially, so maybe missed some references put in to please the fans.

Like many movies, it was 30 minutes too long for what it was, in fact could have taken out much but not all of the human interactions and it would have worked.

So, it was a film about A.I anti heroes, with some b movie space cadet chasing about and monsters thrown in.

Darkest Hour 7.5/10. Well worth watching. Gary Oldman wasn't particularly convincing as churchill but in the round it was a very good movie and perfectly captured the moment, both cinematographically and historically (though I have no idea if the bit on the tube happened in reality).

And his secretary, damn but I'd like a couple of hours with her. Twisted Evil

Three Billboards 8/10. The typical post-modern movie-literature anti-climatic ending but the characterization and acting were stellar.

I was very disappointed with the whole movie. No reason to have any sympathy for the characters. A bunch of idiots who you wouldn't leave in charge of a Lego car never mind a multi-gazilion dollar spaceship get up to dumb s#it to drive a clumsy plot which achieves nothing except to explain what happened to Noomi Rapace.

Turned it off after 30 mins, should I have given it longer Thinking

Prometheus made sense as a background story to the other movies but Covenant was just filler. Very expensive and undoubtedly profitable filler but still just filler.

With Prometheus I've never seen a film so obviously setup for a sequel, I think that's what annoyed me about it. Oh and run diagonally you dumb bitches Brick Wall https://vimeo.com/145692163
