My local cinema does classic film nights, so I took my dad to watch a film that we watched when I was a little kid. Mid 80's, awful soundtrack, abysmal acting, shameful script and it was loud enough to give me tinnitus for the rest of the night, but overall, it was brilliant. My dad hasn't been to the cinema since 1995, and he was walking around like a kid seeing new stuff. Prime Arnie, lots of guns and fighting, classic one-liners... 8/10 for the experience of seeing it in a cinema alone. |
CBFcarl, remember when I said I was gonna kill you last? I lied.

You need to let off some steam....
Family film night last night, we went to watch:
Fantastic Beasts - The Crimes of Grindalwald
I'm not a Potterverse fan. The mrs and kid however are. I was meant to be taking the boy to watch Escape from New York in a 4k restoration, but the tickets had gone by the time I tried. Plan B, score some brownie points.... What a steaming pile of shite. Sure, in places it looked pretty (but dark...), but I (and more tellingly, the Mrs) had **NO** idea as to what was happening. There were some 1930's Germany-esque rally, there was CGI including one thing that looks like it was taken straight from The NeverEnding Story and had big teeth stuck to it, and that was about it. I know that it is building up to something, because this is film 2 of a proposed 5 film franchise, but come on - if someone from your target audience comes out not knowing wtf is going on, there is something wrong.
4/10 for me. Overly long and confusing bobbins. ____________________ thx1138 wrote: Well if you had a car, I'd bet it would smell like urine had had drunken sex with vomit and made a poo baby.

2001: A Space Odyssey /10 - I saw it as a kid years ago and thought it was a good sci-fi film with a weird ending*, hence the... Now I obviously have less of an attention span as I found it a rather boring sci-fi film, although I (surprisingly) remembered a lot of it so that's probably a factor. The cinematography is brilliant, if it wasn't for the all white cast (a collectors item now) and a few crude models/computer graphics, you wouldn't believe it's a 60s film.
*I still don't understand the ending
Edit: I like the fact they realised it was really f'ing long so included an intermission Marvel take note. |

I had a sort of discussion with someone on a Facebook film group recently about this. He awarded it 5 out of 5 stars in a review, and I basically said that at the time it was released, yes but nowadays it doesn't hold up so well. It's a great experience, but it drags on so much, and whatever people say the ending actually means, it's still weird and still plods a bit. The guy got pretty shirty with me as if I'd insulted his mother or something. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

The Predator (2018) - 5/10
It was alright, I guess. They took the sound effects and music from the original film/s, so that helped a bit. The comedy bits and jokes were actually good, but other than that it was nothing worth watching twice. The cast was the typical ''I can't find a job'' group of people, that did mediocre job, at best. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Truth or Dare (2018) - 4.5/10
It is an idiotic horror film about young people playing this game. It starts quite like The Ring (2002), turned into crap soon enough after that. However, I kept watching, as it wasn't that bad, that I would turn it off and the cast was actually quite well picked.
One of those, lazy Sunday + crap weather films.
Swimming with Men (2018, UK) - 6/10
A very relaxed comedy about Rob Brydon going through a mid-life crisis, who finds a new meaning of life in synchronised swimming. It's sort of the ''typical'' from zero to hero film with some very well crafted comedy bits. Genuinely good film. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I took the lad to watch Creed 2 last night.
I like watching boxing, but I've never seen a Rocky film all the way through, I was originally taking my dad to see it (he loves them), but he was ill, so just me and the boy. He wasn't expecting to like it, but came out having really enjoyed it. I thought it was a good story told well, although I thought that some of the scenes were shot too dark, or the lighting wasn't quite right. Gonna download the rest of the films and have a bit of a binge though. Solid 7.5/10
The mrs has just got an Amazon Prime account, so when I got in from work on Friday, she was watching Final Destination 5 again.
Not the best in the series (3,1,2 for me) but still a decent film. I felt that they tried too hard to integrate the 3D aspects which took you out of the film a little bit. Still worth a watch, but don't go out of your way to watch it. [SPOILER OF SORTS] I did like how they set the timeline so that it ended up at the beginning of FD1 - that was clever. ____________________ thx1138 wrote: Well if you had a car, I'd bet it would smell like urine had had drunken sex with vomit and made a poo baby.

As someone else said, if it wasn't for the original music and some of the sound effects, this wouldn't have been as good. Was a bit cheese in parts but overall, it was quite an enjoyable film. There was several moments I laughed out light slightly, quite comedic in parts. |
I found it quite funny as well, maybe a bit predictable, and the plot was a bit... 5/10 from me.
Venom 6.5/10 - a lot better and funnier than I was expecting. I do have a bit of a man crush on Tom Hardy, and I watched it with a pal so that probably helps with finding the humour funny, but overall I enjoyed it.
Red Sparrow 3/10 boring, laboring piece of shit... hang on Jennifer Lawrence's taking her clothes off 10/10 A bit like Atomic Blonde, equality seems to mean watching an attractive women getting the crap beat out of her I thought violence against women was a problem, it seems strange they'd try and normalise it in cinema but whatever. |
