The Predator : 6.5/10

As someone else said, if it wasn't for the original music and some of the sound effects, this wouldn't have been as good. Was a bit cheese in parts but overall, it was quite an enjoyable film. There was several moments I laughed out light slightly, quite comedic in parts.

I found it quite funny as well, maybe a bit predictable, and the plot was a bit... Eh? 5/10 from me.

I agree, 6.5 is way too generous.

Big fan of the predator films though. I even enjoyed the 2010 "Predators" one with Adrian Brody.

Serenity - 8/10

Crew of Robin Hoods on a spaceship take on a passenger who was busted out of a lab.

2005 movie, its definitely aged a bit. I loved this film when it came out and have probably watched it half a dozen times.

Movie from the TV series Firefly.

The Nun - 6/10

I do not usually watch horror genre films, usually because they're shite. I think the last one I saw was "The Babbadook" and that was weird. This was also weird but quite disturbing with all the nun / castle scenes. Some cheese in there too but overall it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I thought it was awful. I recently watched all of the 'conjuring universe' for some reason, the only one I liked was Annabelle: Creation, the first conjuring was passable but the others were shite. If ever a film didn't deserve a franchise it's this one, but simple horror films seem to be hugely profitable: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conjuring_Universe

One of my all time favourite films.

As you said, basically Firefly the series with an ending after it was cut by the studio.

Kevin Bridges : The Brand New Tour - 8/10

Whilst not a film, this was fucking hilarious. If you're 30 something as well, even more relate-able.

The Festival 5/10 - Simon from The Inbetweeners' still going out with Tara (they got married in real life), and he decides to go to a festival with his black bezzie mate. It actually had some genuinely funny (albeit crass) moments, then lost its way a bit and ended up just being the plot from Kevin and Perry go large Rolling Eyes

Morgan 5.5/10 - one of those films where you can't really say much without ruining the plot, but it was an alright Sci-Fi film, and as I criticised Red Sparrow they got it right (the female casting/violence) with this film Thumbs Up

First Man 4.5/10 - Ryan Gosling plays Neil Armstrong in a film about his life (mainly) the space race. It wasn't bad it's just if you have the faintest interest in space you know most of it already. It had some interesting cinematography, I think they were trying to give it a more real, first person perspective. At well over 2 hours it was way too long though.

We watched this last weekend, and I would have gone down to about 3. It's a horror film with no horror... I thought the first Conjuring film was good, but all of the others have been disappointing.

Once Upon a Deadpool

A one off special, Deadpool 2 but cut to be a 12A, but using (grown up) Fred Savage and The Princess Bride as a framing method. I was worried that losing the violence and swearyness would turn it a bit shite, but it surprisingly worked. You could still see the cuts and missing bits, but it didn't matter because FS was genuinely funny. 8/10 - look for a torrent (also, there was an amazing Stan Lee stinger at the end).

Galveston - 6/10

Pretty gritty film about a mob type enforcer who gets setup and ends up taking a young girl with him. I like the actor Ben Foster who plays him, he's quite an underrated actor. He played the older bro in "Alpha Dog" which was a great film.

White Boy Rick 6/10 - based on a true story, a crime thing about a lad going in Detroit who as the name suggests... is white. It was pretty good, it wasn't the more common glamorisation of drugs/crime you often get, it was more real.

Aquaman - 4/10

All of the reviews on IMDB are all 10/10, 9/10 and the occasional 8/10 and I have absolutely no idea why. Its about two hours of world building and ploddy plot before anything remotely interesting happens and then they trundle the same old tropes out one after the other. Im glad I didn't pay for my ticket!

Office Christmas Party (Amazon Prime Video)

We saw the trailer for this last year and fancied watching it but missed it at the cinema. The story is a failing company office is threatened with closure, so decide to go all out to get a big contract, and throw a massive party. Quite entertaining, even if I had to bite my tongue when they were making up tech shit.

7.5/10

Home Alone

The local cinema are doing a bunch of Christmas films re-released, so we took the boy to watch this. Still very funny, and I was getting weird looks as I was laughing like a loon at the violent parts. I don't like the end though, where the mother has to apologise before he smiles and hugs her - he was a dick to his family...

8/10 - classic

Venom = 6/10

There was some genuinely funny moments in the film... all most all of which came from Venom himself. The dialogue was pretty poor and the story not much further behind.

Aside from the fact I have a custom airbrushed helmet as Venom ( for about 5 years ) and being a massive fan of the cartoons... I would have rated it a bit lower.

I rated the nun a 6 too but that was meant for what it was... a jump scare film, not because it was a great film.

Point Break: 6.5/10

It just happened to be on TV while I was going other things. Had a quick glance on IMDB and saw a score of about 5/10. I think the low expectations made the film more enjoyable. For all its tackiness, it was fun in an early 90s kind of way.

The original was very good - and sadly was the basis for Fast and the Furious, which took the concept and chavved it up with 20 speed granny cars.

I'd forgotten they'd made a remake; seen the trailers before it was released will have to have a look.

Creed II - 5/10.
I was never a fan of the Stallone. This one made less sense than the others as the main character who eventually wins looks like he could be broken like a twig by the other guy. Pretty sure I am not spoiling much when I say the black guy wins.

Sorry to bother you - 8/10.
Not going to spoil this one at all but if you like weird comedy then go and
see this. Not a classic but plenty entertaining.

Burnout 4/10 - french film about a well wicked motorcycle racer who gets pulled into the world of #baklaf. I watched it as it was bike porn, in which it duly delivered although you could probably condense the motorcycle scenes into a 10 minute montage.

Ducati are the kings of product placement when it comes to movies.

Cardboard Gangsters - 6/10

Story about Irish chav lads trying to make it as drug dealers in the roughest part of Dublin.

Quite an interesting little insight into what things are like over there (including kids running around on little horses - which is a real thing, according to one IMDB reviewer).

A lot of it reminded me of growing up in Chapel Allerton in Leeds. That was 25 years ago though. I guess Ireland is a couple of decades behind...

Storyline was alright, good acting considering it was a bunch of unknowns on a low budget. Only problem was the ending was basically nonsense. The whole thing was quite a common-sense story, then the end happened. Nothing over-the-top, but it just wasn't a realistic end to what was otherwise quite a realistic story.

I also wish there were more 'scenery' shots, showing the area, the neighbourhood etc. The story is obviously set in a poor part of Dublin, but there's not much done to actually set the scene and make you feel like you're experiencing it.
