The Spielberg version, with Tom Cruise.
A spur-of-the-moment decision to stay up and watch was nicely rewarded
Actually, I often get bored with late night movies and give up before the end, but this had my attention throughout. With some suspenseful moments, I wanted to see what would happen next.
It made a change seeing Tom Cruise in non-hero mode too (American standard-format hero movies nearly always bore me).
The ending was a bit anti-climatical, but by then I was ready for bed anyway, so it worked out well watching it when I did. |
Probably the only time I'll get to say the book was better with you well read mofos so... the book was better

They're leaving room for all the prequel/sequels...

Tbh, I've never read the book (I don't think), but had a vague knowledge of the plot. I think this was kind of loose with that, because it was supposed to be set in a more recent time. So I didn't mind if it wasn't going to be an accurate interpretation of the H.G. Wells original, but just took it on its own merits.
A good book will always be better than a movie in my opinion
For me, a movie is generally good if there are no moments that make me cringe in a "oh, don't be ridiculous!/yawn/not that old cookie!" kind of way ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

"I think you've got a secret, and it's something you won't tell anyone."
Well, doh!
Sorry, been catching up on the Bond movies I haven't gotten around to before, i.e., all the Daniel Craig ones - yes, really Not really worth rating them here, is it? ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I don't think I've seen the whole of a single Daniel Craig one.
He just never really impressed me as having the right stuff.
I only really liked him in the 2012 Olympics clip ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Watch Skyfall... the rest were crap. |
I liked Casino Royale. Skyfall was crap. I measure Xavier Bardem by "No Country For Old Men"; he failed sorely as the villain in Skyfall, and the ending was pathetic. Spectre was better, proper Bond-type script. Not just imo; fact Take my word for it. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I've yet to see anything where he really impresses.
I didn't find him nearly as menacing as he was alleged to be. |
I thought he was good in the movie I mentioned, which was the first I saw him in. I think I've seen him in a couple of other things, but agreed, nothing where he really stood out. But in Skyfall...just hopeless. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Saving Grace 8/10
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0195234/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2
6.9 on IMDB is rediculous.
My favourite film perhaps from 2000 (maybe Lock Stock, Human Traffic or Groove beat it from that era).
But one of a few films I've watched more than 6 times.
Warm and comfortable, with community + heart and a mild fuck you to establishment. |

The Wolf of Wall Street 7/10
Entertaining, quite funny for a Yank movie, DiCaprio was good, but some good supporting cast performances too. Very 80s theme, but I enjoyed it. A blessed relief from all the "terrorist bomber hijacks plane/White House/bus/spaceship/public toilet, and is defeated by all-American hero" bullshit drivel we're so often plagued with. Although this wasn't exactly original either, it is, I think, one of the better efforts.
N.B.: M.C won't like it ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
