Had a bit of a binge watch on Netflix last night:

Panic Room with Jody Foster and Forest Whitaker (8/10) I nearly didn't watch it, after early scenes gave me a bit of a "vulnerable woman late at night nerves" vibe, but I was encouraged to try and keep watching it, so I did and I am glad.

K19 The Widowmaker with Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson (7/10): Ordinarily I wouldn't go anywhere near this sort of shite, but "military person" had the remote Rolling Eyes Laughing ... so I caved in. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Can't remember what else. Must have been not nearly as interesting Laughing

I watched The Zero Theorem last weekend
2/10

Just very weird, and boring IMO.

If someone would like to explain it to me that would be nice

Unhinged. 8/10

Russell Crowe not in good shape, not so much Maximus Fitasfukas but more like Fattus Bastardus wheezes his way through the 90 minute flick.

He must have put on 14 stone for the role.

Angry bloke Russell loses his job just before retirement and pension scheme kicks in, left with nowt; finds his wife is being plugged by some random and then goes on a mad one.

Cue the victim in the film, loser hair dresser played by Caren Pistorius (no I've never heard of her either), impatiently gives Russell long multiple blasts on her car horn when he is slow turning at a junction in his truck. She then gets rather gobby when Russell pulls up along side her and she gives it the big 'un in the safety of her vehicle.

Russell's not having any of it. Thrilling film where gobby bitch is in fear for her life as Russell goes full mental. You actually find yourself rooting for Russell.

A good 90 minute flick.

The Irishman 7/10

Had to wait until I had 3.5 solid hours I could actually sit and watch this, and as it is I had to do it in two sittings.

It's good, but the elephant in the room is clearly Goodfellas. Might have worked better as a mini series. The CGI is a tad uncanny valley but it didn't take me out of the movie, which I actually found fascinating.

This isn't one I'll rewatch, as I'll just watch Goodfellas or Casino instead.

Have never understood how that works - lose your job and lose your pension.

Do they have a different system over there?

Wonder what happened to him.

Nope, no relation.

Oscar is still in jail, and will not be eligible for parole until at least 2023.

I was tipped off to this one by an American guitar repairer I follow on Youtube - he's got a good sense of humour and mentioned this as possibly his favourite film. I don't remember it being released here and I had to buy it on Amazon Prime.......

Walk Hard

Comes in the form of a spoof biopic of a music superstar and his ups and downs, starring John C Reilly as the main protagonist, it follows his life from unfortunate childhood, through his rise to stardom, downfall and rise again.

Probably better if, like me, you're familiar with the 'real' biopics of the likes of Johnny Cash (Walk The Line) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Great Balls Of Fire) because some of the less obvious jokes will really resonate, but also works as a stand alone comedy.

If you know and like Reilly's work with Will Ferrell, then that's what you can expect - some almost Pythonesque surrealism and plenty of just downright silliness, it cost me 7 quid, but that's less than a ticket to the flicks and I can watch it as many times as I want, which is good as I've seen it three times now and keep seeing new things.

Not quite to the standard of Airplane (not much is) but there are worse ways to disengage your brain for an hour and a half.

7/10

I watched October Sky last night.

It was pretty decent , I'd give it 7/10. Lots of fun firing rockets.

Not sure how I missed this one before.

Project Power. 8/10

Jamie Foxx stars along with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a thrill ride Netflix exclusive. Pills that give ordinary humans animal like powers for 5 minutes a shot, you don't know what your power is until you take the pill. Could be good like 5 minutes of camouflaged ability or it could be shit like you self detonate (I don't know of an animal that self detonates; the producers never really explained the logic behind that one).

Anyway, cops, bad guys, a little girl caught up in the middle of it. I'd watch it again, A watchable Netflix film.

The Dirt - 8/10

The story of Mötley Crüe. It was actually a very nice surprise. It was quite raw yet it still had a lot of comedic bits in it to lighten up the mood of the film (story). The cast was just perfect, with great chemistry between the actors. They also perfectly picked their songs for the film.

Well done, 8/10.

The nightingale 8/10

Pretty bleak revenge thriller set in 1820s Australia.

Project Power 6/10

A lot of people seemed to like it, but it was just your usual sub par Netflix movie trying to cash in on the superhero craze. A few YouTubers and rappers crammed were also into the movie to get some fans to watch it. Also had some weird sub plot about the young black girl wanting to be a rapper and a cringey scene where she shows the main guy how good she is Laughing
It's alright if you just want a quick movie to watch.

Tesla 4/10

This could have been so much better. Tesla was a misunderstood genius probably centuries ahead of his time.

The film concentrated on his feud with Edison and AC/DC (not the band). But then went silly. I turned it off after Tesla started singing 'Everbody wants to rule the world/

Tenet. 6/10

Yes, well, done by the same bloke who directed Inception and it shows.

Sort of Dr. Who meets inception and it was hard work to keep up with half the time. Saying that, it was visually good and I understood enough to generally enjoy it. The leading lady (Elizabeth Debicki) exuded dribble appeal (to me) so that was good.

It's probably a film if I watch a couple of times I could get my head round it properly. I'll wait until it's on Netflix or Prime for that though.

I wanted/want to see it, but I struggle to go 10 mins rushing in and out of lidl with a mask on, I just can't imagine 2 or 3 hours wearing one.

I've always had this problem, doing DIY has always been a pain, I hate masks.

Once you are in your seat you can take your masks off to slurp flat coke and eat overpriced popcorn. It's only going in and out you are meant to wear one.

Two seats between each group - so it was pretty well handled in the Odeon here.

Yes card payment only in cinema, mask on whilst in foyer, in seating in the film you take mask off and when film ends; leave via the fire exits by the screen. You then have to walk around the complex to get back to your car.

This I am afraid is the new normal.

I've just finished watching the rather controversial "Cuties" on Netflix (also known as "Mignonnes" in its original French).

You guys probably wouldn't like it.
Its a "African girl coming of age" kind of thing.

Bit of a chick flick really.
Not at all what they're making all the fuss about.

But 10/10
It brought me close to sobbing twice, and to tears once.

Probably shouldnt watch it with your Mrs.

Dead Presidents 5/10

Starring a load of great character actors of colour that you'll all recognise, It's well acted, has compelling moments but it's in that arena of people doing the time shifting thing like Pulp Fiction, but not using it for the right reasons or knowing when to use it and when not to. A bit of judicious editing and making use of the framing device a bit more would have made it more of a masterpiece with more of a story to tell. As it is some events happen that end up with more events, and then the ending. The time shifting thing is used far too sparingly (just at the very beginning) and so renders it pointless and actually ruins the movie.

If you knew about certain later events first before learning what brought them about, the movie would be ten times more entertaining.

Hard to explain without spoiling it but it's like a great movie that was re edited by the studio.

"The Social Dilemma", on Netflix. 8/10

Interestinggggggg.

"Why you should stop using ALL FORMS of social media and have a less internetty life"

It was hard to concentrate on the mature boardroom lady.
Her hair was too fabulous, I had to stop myself from fixating on it, so I could listen to what she was saying.

And that guy with the dreads ... verging on the freaky, dude.
(but really ... fascinating! Like a tarantula, so ghastly its impossible to take your eyes off him while he tells you about reality he reckons you should be afraid of)

So its more than just chewing gum for the brain, and yet not quite into the conspiracy theory spectrum.

I guess that's what they're expecting me to put, anyway.

But yeah. Watch it.
And decide what you are gonna do about it.

The tech experts all seem reluctant to let their children be drawn into technology at all. Strange that ...

Watched it last night. Thumbs Up

I don't buy the argument that nobody knew what was being built...

But yes, very interesting. A good watch - everyone that uses social media should watch it.
