Having got onto a bike for the first time ever on 19 July 2010, I passed my mod 2 yesterday! Very very chuffed as only 1 minor and that was because a van indicated really late and made me stop.

Also had a very close call when a car went flying over an unmarked crossroads and missed my front wheel by not much. Examiner said I handled it all very well.

In the process of selling my EN125 and then it's onto the big bike! I've seen a nice K3 SV650 for £1600, a GSXR on a 98 for £1300 and a CBR600 for about £1600 too.

If the gods are on my side, I could be riding something exciting by close of play Sunday!!

Well done on the pass. Good choice of bikes too. I'd go for the suzuki myself, Either one of the 2. I like the SV's personally but since I was offered a long term loan of a GSXR 750 for free I am currently on that.

When the dude wants it back (if) then I might invest in an SV. Just not sure if it'll be a 650 or thousand Laughing

Well done on the pass!

I passed mine earlier this week, and had to employ the hazard avoidance manoeuvre (from MOD1) on the way back to the test centre. A car driver decided to pull out of a junction on my left without looking, then stopped right in front of me!

It was raining hard, and luckily the examiner (who was in a car) got on his brakes in time. Smile

I am leaning towards the SV650 as I've heard the power delivery is excellent right through the rev range, and the engine braking is great for new riders. Found a nice one 1999 one for £1400 not far from me so might be worth a gander. Don't really want a red bike, but I guess for the right price I'm happy to let my colour choice slide!

This is the SV:

https://is.gumtree.com/image/big/22501791.jpg

And this is the write up:

Red 1999 ( T-Reg) Suzuki SV650s in very good condition.
18200 miles and rising as it's still in use.
Standard bike except for Art Pro race can (still have original).

MOT till August 2011
6 Months road tax
New chain/sprockets
Fully treated with ACF50
Complete rear linkage rebuild
All calipers recently rebuilt and serviced
Scot-oiler
Rear hugger
Headlight bulbs upgraded with Ozram Nightbreaker bulbs
Crash bungs (Motosliders, not cheap R+G ones)

Thoughts?

haha! Small world eh?!

Popped it on Autotrader and eBay. She saw it on both and came down from Alloa with 2 pals and a trailer. Asked how much I wanted for it, I said £900, and she paid in a wedge of £50 notes!

Is that the GSXR that's on eBay and Autotrader that says if you offer less than £1300 you can kiss the genteleman's "banger"?! He's in Blantyre and I was going to pop over and see it but think it might be a bit sporty for me.

I've found a 2000 CBR600 in Cumnock for £1500 with a few scuffs on the fairing and currently restricted which looks ok, but I think he SV650 up there ^^^ is probably one of the best I've seen in my price range. Gonna give him a ring and see what's happening.

You got yours on sale yet? Seen any big bikes?

Like you say, at least it's now sold.

I picked up my SV650 today. Managed to get it down to £1200 and rode it back from Johnstone with my mate in the car behind me. It is absolutely lovely! It has an Art can on it which is a bit loud so might need to get something a tad quieter, but it pulls all the way through the gears and is an awesome thing to ride!

I'm going to do a few things to it myself - nice rear end tidy, cool indicators, maybe some funky mirrors and definitely a nice screen rather than the stock one. All of that can wait til payday though as for now I am just enjoying riding it.

Happy Days!!

Weggie?!?! It's WEEGIE!!!

Good work on the Fazer! Year, colour, mileage, cost??!?!

All good mate. The commute is well more fun, although I've nearly been wiped out twice this week on that little roundabout on the A726, where you can turn left to Eaglesham or right to Newton Mearns. Drifting in the lanes by car drivers has meant I've had to gun it to secure my gap to exit! Filtering on the M8 is ace. Some people do NOT like being filtered by - they drift across and try to block you!

I'm planning a run out on Sunday morning if you fancy it. Strathaven - Muirkirk - Cumnock - New Cumnock - Dallmelington - Ayr - M77 - Home. Did it the other night and it is ace. Loads of cool twisty roads and some excellent straights. Fancy it? Early start at McD's for brekkie and onwards!!

haha minor typo caused by excessive hyperness due to mad motorcycle!!

its a 99 t reg in black, done 27500 miles, and in decent condition, plastics have seen better days but i cant complain for the price, got it for only 720 quid, need a few bits of work done, the carb infeed rubber seals need replaced, and needs a damn good wash, apart from that its just some plastics touch ups, few cracks etc, will get some pics up tomorrow

its a flyin machine!!! had a wee blast from standstill to about 80 comin up expressway, joinin on from the hamilton/blantyre lidl and i have no doubts it can do 60 in under 4 seconds, frightening speed for only 700 quid....... i love it!!!!

as for the run out on sunday i dont kno if i can make it, depends in time and duration, pickin up girlfriend from glasgow airport at half 12 on sunday so would need to be home for 11 ish for a shower and to get there

T reg is the BEST reg! Cool

Sounds the part mate. Fazer's are a bit quicker than the SV's apparently so we can test that theory! Bargain price - ideal for a first bike. You gonna do any mods? I've ordered a double bubble for mine that is immensely cool, as well as red bolts to attach it and some rim tape (hur hur!). Trying to find a cowl but really struggling, unless I want to pay £180 for one for the US of A, which I then need to get sprayed.....

I did it the other night and it took about 2hrs 15m, but I was holding back a bit as it was only my 2nd day on the bike, and I also stopped for a break. If we went about 8:30-9 it would be do-able. Up to you though - this weekend is gonna be good weather for it but there's bound to be another one day....next August maybe?!

Your call dude!

aye why not, half 8 at mcd's? will need to make sure im back by 11 tho, but dont think it will be a prob

as for the upgrades all im gonni do just now is the carb inlet rubbers, will wait and see if i use it much, pretty sure i will but will give it a month or two, think a nice tinted double bubble screen will be required, also the downpipes are a touch rusty, still prefectly useable, no bad rust, but may fit some stainless numbers at some point, dont think im interested in an end can, sounds magic as it is, altho will wait and see how your art one sounds

defo gonni get it a service soon, think a oil and filter change would be smart, also new spark plugs wouldnt go amiss

830 is ideal - I'm up early with the wee man so suits me perfick. If we get short on time we can just head for the 77 and bomb it back.

You might find the pipes just look rusty and a bit of elbow grease may bring them up shiny again. Heard good stuff about Autosol so worth trying that as a hard graft but cheap option.

The stock can will sound ok just now but I guarantee Sunday will change your mind!

Bought a Haynes Manual, some oil and a filter for mine so going to do that tomorrow I think, and plugs if they need it.

Off to feed the boy - I'll PM you my number and you can text me tomorrow evening to let me know we'er still on for Sunday.
