Street Triple servicing/servicing intervals in general.

Right, my Street Triple had a service at 500 miles (@ dealer to remain in warranty) but the next is not until 6000 miles (again will get done by dealer). Has anyone who has/does own a 675 engined bike changed the oil/filter themselves at 3k miles, it's not stiuplated in the sercive schedule that this is needed. Any reccomendations on whether this is worth doing or should I just stick to the reccomended seriving schedule. Are the tolerances on engines now that good?

I've changed it every hundred and fifty miles... can't hurt to be careful Razz.

I believe it's all ironed out, but I'd definitely be keeping an eye on the oil level, just in case.

3000 miles is a good amount for the low oil volume of a motorcycle engine IMO, particularly with their rev happy nature etc. I'd probably change the oil and filter at 3000 miles for peace of mind, particularly as there have been documented oil issues with the 675 motor. I'd also be checking the oil level every week if you believe what you read in the press.

I have been checking the oil level every week or so. Not burned off a drop.

My 675 had a few oil changes. I stuck to the milage/year services and swapped it out after every 2 trackdays.
6k is fine on the oil on these bikes. Just keep an eye on the level every 500miles or so. Mine used less than a 1L in the 8k i did on it in 2 years.

Well who is going to be honouring the warranty if anything goes wrong....
Manufacture or the peeps who are giving different advice to what the manufacture recommends.

Stick to what the manufacture says. I bet it even advises that you should check the oil level as one of the daily/weekly checks anyway.

Hi

Suspect you could get away with far less frequent changes in normal use. Even 6000 miles is a pathetically short oil life compared to lots of modern cars.

Pretty sure it was the manufacturer that was not honouring warranty claims when their bikes burned off their oil and ate themselves - and don't think they had any mention of too regular checks of the oil.

Manufacturers take a calculated decision on how they can make the best profit, not what is the best for the motorcycle rider.

A lot of bikes don't do 6000 in a year, to be honest I tend to change the oil and do my own service late winter early spring regardless of mileage - in all vehicles not just the bike (which isn't a triumph)

As its a new bike it will have a handbook. Usually in these, Well certainly all the ones I have. Explain waht you need to check and how often.

If you have failed to check the oil level, and lets face it, its a easy task and one we all know should be done. Then you will realise that the oil is getting low and needs topping up.
I can see how the manufacture is getting out of the claims if there is no/very little oil in the engine. They will simply say owner neglect has caused the problem.
Having said that a new bike should not burn off that much oil, that it runs so low as to screw up the engine. So that is something that needs to be taken up with them.

Shorter service intervals = increased profit. Well to dealerships anyway.

all the modern triumphs are 6000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, apart from the rocket 3 which is 10000

And I'm pretty sure the early 675s didn't specify that you needed to regularly check oil level in their handbook.
The TRX is the only bike I've had that burned noticeable amounts of oil - it's generally not expected in a modern bike so quite reasonable for people to not do so regularly.
