Again, sorry. Although the last TV show thread was Lost i think. Razz

A few years back i had a show for every night of the week, now i have Entourage which runs for half the time of other shows at a tiny 25 minutes.

Any suggestions, mainly shows within the past year or so as i've scanned through the old ones but not seen many i like.

I couldn't get into The Wire, i heard fantastic things about it but for a TV show i like things that aren't the norm & not too serious (if that's a fair thing to say even after half an episode lol) As a film, i'd love something like The wire but not for a TV show.

There's nothing like finding a gem of a show & realizing you have 5 seasons of torrents to get through, happened with Lost. Smile

some of my favs are Lost, Heroes, Prison Break, Dexter & Breaking Bad so not really your norm TV shows.

I've had to resort to my emergency shows, Man Vs Wild. Sad Laughing

Will have a read up, always thought it was a slap stick comedy show, especially being on E4.

Love war movies but not too keen on one for a TV show, although you hear nothing but good things from the ones above.

Hung looks interesting. Laughing

Yeah breaking bad is good.

Not seen The Shield, isn't that more or less the same as The Wire? As above, i can't get into these shows, as a film sure but i like shows with a little difference. I started to watch 'Chuck' but it seemed to lean more towards the comedic side then anything. Much prefer the shows that aren't full on silly but have there moments i.e Entourage.

I'm fresh outta movies too, i've seen City of God, not seen Tropa De Elite, just reading about it & it looks good.

Thanks for the suggestions & if you haven't seen breaking Bad, give it a watch, it's superb. Also Day Break which is unknown/underrated.

Tropa De Elite is excellent, I rewatched it this week. A little slow at first setting the scene, but when it picks up pace, it's pretty intense. The guy who did the screenplay also did the screenplay for City of God.

The Shield isnt the same as The Wire, it's more blue collar, and the twist is they are dirty cops, catching criminals but making a bit of extra money for themselves on the side. It's more like the Sopranos than The Wire. Like the sopranos, it follows a charismatic powerful fat guy as the main character. He's the centre for all the plots.

The early series of the Sopranos are worth watching.

I will definitely give Tropa De Elite a watch then because loved City Of God & wasn't really a fan of subtitles but it draws you in. Brilliantly shot too.

I think i'll try to re-watch The Wire/Shield then, had a very slow build up but guessing it'll keep my attention once you start to know the characters. (like all the shows so)

I used to watch The Soprano's, not religiously like i do with shows now but just the odd few episodes & remember it being a good watch but the last episode i saw was when Tony killed his brother & then threw his body off a cliff (from what i remember).

I recommend watching sopranos from the start. You can get a torrent with all the episodes of every series. It's much better if you watch it from the start.

Yup, may have to re-watch it again, although i've heard mixed responses from the later seasons.

Never really gave this show a thought, seen it about but always thought of it as a Grey's Anatomy type show. Will watch a few promo/trailers.

Yeah another reason to watch the first few series rather than the later ones.

House is a must, Hugh Lawrie can be really funny.

Try this; https://on-my.tv/

Website created by a uni friend, basically all the current popular TV shows between here, US and Canada. You can filter out the shows you watch as well.

Sorry if this a obvious suggestion but as I've been using it since it was created I'm not sure how well known it is.

These are the shows I watch, may not be your thing but then again you may find something you like the sound of;

Fringe
Bones
Eureka
Warehouse 13 (awful writing recently though)
Stargate Universe
Criminal Minds
How I Met Your Mother
Big Bang Theory
V
Lie To Me
The Mentalist
Chuck
and probably some stuff I've forgotten right now.

The woman also likes an episode a night of something. We've been working through the following:

House - very good. Decent medical drama with plenty of teh funneh thrown in. Doesn't try and shove morals in your face all the time like scrubs, which I find utter shite.

Mad Men - Encapsulated the early 60s as well as old movies do. Makes women obedient. Excellent if you want a cup of tea afterwards.

Peep Show. Shame the series are so short.

American Dad. Better than family guy.

King of the Hill. Didn't like it so much in 1995 and didn't know they had kept on making it. Very good now, much better than the simpsons but not as good as American Dad.

I have also watched:

The Wire. Excellent show. They didn't try and drag it out for ever like so many American serials, meaning there isn't a tail-end shit series.

Lost. A waste of 7 years.

Prison break. A waste of 5 years.

Dexter. Good overall, but some of the episodes and storylines are a bit weak. Main character carries it. I want to punch his woman in the mouth.

24. I can never get round to starting a series, then when I do I have to watch them close together or I never get back to it.

Next up:

True Blood. The woman has watched the first few, and loves it. I've seen snippets, floats my boat.

House is my pick. Very odd to think of Hugh Laurie as any of his Blackadder characters after watching it.

I recommend House. Six series and the eps are 40 mins long. Even if you don't like doctor programmes I reckon House is a winner.

Other programmes I have watched:
    Lost
    Glee
    Flashforward
    Two and a Half Men
    The Big Bang Theory
    Ice Road Truckers
    Heroes
    Sharpe
    Prison Break

I'm sure there are more but they should give you ideas.

A friend has recommended a series called 'Underbelly' to me, it's an Australian series based around the crime syndicates in Melbourne in the 70's, 80's and 90's (think Chopper made into a series), I've downloaded the first season but it won't stream to my xbox 360 so will have to convert and burn it, but my friend swears by it and he usually isn't wrong with his recommendations.

Also another one to try is Deadwood. Set in the wild west, and loosely based on a true story, it got a but too political for my liking towards the end but other than that its brilliant if for nothin more than seeing the Dude who used to play 'Lovejoy' calling someone a motherfucking cocksucker every few minutes Smile

I've just thought of another one.

Flight of the Concords, is a rather odd comedy where they sing songs.

It is odd, but pretty good.

Some of the songs are genius.

Thanks all. I'm going to go head over to IMDB & have a read up of all the above. House sounds like it'll be a keeper but hopefully cn get a good collection going again.

But as in the OP make sure you watch Day Break! It's like serious version of Groundhog day. Only lasted 2 seasons so didn't get dragged out.

Never watched House before, heard all the hype etc but never got round to watching one.

Watched one randomly with the missus and it was really good.
Haven't watched it since, but I would definetly watch it if it was on now.

The only programme I will go out of my way to watch (don't do much TV anymore) is NCIS.
Very good programme, strong characters, humours and a good balance of character development and espisode by episode cases, with a strong main line for each series.

Throughly enjoy watching it.

Even if you're not into the CSI, type programmes, try NCIS, it's a lot less cheesy.

I highly recommend True Blood. Violence, sex, vampires, sharp script, likeable characters.

It's definitely one for the adults. Thumbs Up
