Hi,
got some Berick motocross boots today for £40 of ebay!
they are almost new and came in the original box!

I was surprised how rigid and inflexible they are compared to my sidi vertebra road bike boots.

They feel like diving boots to wear and I'm sure I could fall asleep with them on and not fall over! Laughing

Very funny! Laughing

Tried to ride the DRZ with them on today but couldn't change gear very well because they are so inflexable and huge! so resorted to my old sidi road boots.
Much nicer! Thumbs Up

Ah ! I get it now ... what you meant to type was:
"I have these new boots and they feel so alien and stiff, and are hard to ride in.
Can any of you experienced and handsome off road riding types offer any words of wisdom and advice? "

As I obviously match the above criteria:
You will get used to them ... and they will free up.
I had trouble changing gear at the start ... and all it took was some time on the bike and a small change of gear lever position.
Now, if I have been riding the off-roader a lot, and take it down the garage in normal road boots .... then i find it really hard to change gear in my normal Sidi Corsa's.

Stick with it ... because you dont want to come off in road boots (snappy ankle / breaky shin)

I bought some Hein Gericke TRGs over 2 years ago and it still feels like I'm wearing a suit of armour whenever I wear them. I have altered the gearshift lever position but I still have to use my foot like a hook when upshifting and I have to take my foot off the foot peg and stomp on the lever to downshift. I've also had to modify my rear brake pedal by extending the surface area of the pedal as I cannot locate the standard pedal whilst wearing these boots. I would have expected them to have been broken in by now but they're still as rigid as the day that I bought them. Does anyone have any tips on how to soften them up a bit?

What bike, how much do you ride and what sort of riding?

Dirt bike boots are meant to be solid - I would be complaining if mine noticeably softened up.
Had my bike's hand-guard (with the bike still attached, just behind it) fall on me, just above where I broke my leg a while ago. Got up and rode off. Ok, it was in sand and the boot may not have helped a massive amount, but it certainly did a reasonable job of at least dissipating the force.

I wear these boots when riding my KLX 300. I do feel quite safe and unbreakable when wearing them but there is absolutely no movement in them whatsoever.
Whilst I did not expect them to turn into moccasin slippers overnight, I would have expected a bit of give to have occurred.
Is this normal with mx boots?

I'd say so, yes. The whole idea is that they keep your leg as rigid as possible to prevent injury.
It isn't clear if they really are motocross boots. There are differentiations in off-road boots; for instance trials boots tend to be a bit more flexible and have a grippier sole.

You haven't said how much riding and what type - it did take me some time to get used to using dirt bike boots. I adapted, rather than the boots. So, yes, I would expect it's normal.

I used to find it awkward to walk in them, but these days am fine with it - spent 9 days or so with nothing else to wear - walking around various cities for hours in my Tech 10s (which looks weird enough in a chilly Amsterdam, but even worse in 30 degrees on a beach in southern Spain when you've only got shorts on otherwise!)

Try leaving a litre of bull semen in each boot for a minimum of 24 hours. If chasing the bulls for a good milking doesn't soften the boots up, at least you'll good reason to buy another pair Very Happy

instead of buying full on mx boots which people have said are designed to cope with the rigours of racing like jumps, crashes etc. Why not get trials or enduro boots? they have more give in them and soften up slightly more. Sounds more like what your after Thumbs Up
