Gloves on a 50? Motocross Gloves?

Okay so nobody ever wants to wear gloves because they are restrictive. Personally I would choose to wear a pair of motocross gloves because they fit nice to your hand (I have Fox DirtPaws) but in the event of a crash, are they really going to rip apart?

I am looking at knuckle protection so if falling of anywhere from 0-58 is not gonna ruin them that bad, would a pair of Fox Bomber gloves go well? I dont know if anyone has come off wearing a pair but it seems they are better than normal mx gloves.

Failing that I may go down the supermoto route. Today I was at my local J&S store and saw a pair of motocross gloves but they were all leather, sadly no knuckle protection. I have been looking at the Alpinestars Octane glove. Not sure what I tried on in the store but I was being dragged out of the door (I am a poet and I didnt know it )

Im not too bothered about getting my hands cold or wet cos I probs wont go for rides in the rain so max distance will be about 5 miles. And as mates do, whack a pair of latex gloves underneath and your hands stay dry.

Oh and I didnt mention I ride a Derbi Senda Drd 50.

Any replies will be greatly appreciated

i were alpine stars SP3's on my 50's and on my mates 125's there very good for protection and arent to restrictive once you brake them in i just wore mine round the house for a day and they wear very comfortablyi think they were around £80 when i got them a while back but any gloves you are comfortable wearing are good aslong as they have a decent amount of protection.

Even 5 miles on a 50 on a dry winter's day in Town can see very cold hands.
I'd get some proper gloves - there's not really much I'd want to do while riding a bike that I feel 'restricted' by while using them.

I have a pair of Richa Magma's, they're nice and snug on my hands. They're a summer glove but I've used them through winter with a pair of inner gloves on, though my hands still got fairly cold.

A stone been flicked up from the vehicle in front and then it collides with your hand without gloves will not be a pretty sight.

Im not really restricted by budget but I would like to keep the bill under or around £50. Those Richa's are the sort of thing I am looking at .

And any comments about motocross gloves?

I highly doubt I will actually fall off myself so it will probably be either some box on four wheels or that stone from under the car in front that will hurt me. Thats why Im leaning towards the lesser protection and more comfort. Also, I need them to fit in a jacket or pocket easily, just like motocross gloves, as I will be walking round school with them etc.

I've got a pair of these Alpinstars windstopper things, only had a couple of other gloves for comparison but these are the best I've had.

They haven't got a great deal of protection, they have hardened knuckles but the palm area is just leather, but I don't feel unsafe in them on my 125. Outer material is Gore-tex which does a decent job of keeping out the wind and rain although it's starting to fail now after a years use in all weather. I've had a low speed crash in them at about 30 mph and they held up well.

I bought them when I moved onto my 125 to help with using the clutch as it was my first geared bike and you can barely tell you're wearing any gloves. I got them for £45 but looking now I can't find any for less than 55, would buy another pair of them

I used to ride my 50 with all the kit, mainly because the first time I came off at 30mph my hands would have been toast if I wasn't wearing gloves since they were the first thing that touched the floor.

I had a pair of Lewis summer gloves, can't remember the exact name but they lasted 8 months before the rain killed them, I was about to buy winter gloves aswell.

I've currently got some Buffalo summer gloves and Hein Gericke winter gloves. Buffalo cost around £25 and the Hein Gericke ones cost £45.

Looking to upgrade now though.

I have had a really good time with the Bolid Carbon Y summer gloves.

They've been fantastic, really decent protection, quality leather and other materials, plus they have survived the washing machine (on a handwash cycle with handwash liquid), a fair few times without the leather going hard/brittle, it's still as supple as the day they arrived. No stitching has gone, and there hasn't been any significant wear and I must have covered over 6'000 miles or so with them by now, using them most days for a couple of hours each day. Well worth it for just over £20! I didn't think they'd last but I needed a quick cheap pair of summer gloves as my other ones had split. Will be looking into a pair of their winter ones soon I think...

About the gloves the long ones look good but the shorter ones just look like tacky gloves with a carbon knuckle so wont be opting for them. Unfotunately I do want short gloves so wont be going for them.

Ive never heard of Bolid and thats probs why noone else mentions them. You bought them for a cheapy pair and not many people do that so thats probs another reason.

Ps. Has nobody worn motocross gloves on a bike then?

Hmm, not too sure about those winter ones. I like shorter gloves but I guess in the winter it may be okay. Not to keen on the lack of knuckle protection though.

Refuse to ride without gloves, small little gloves aren't going to do anything when you're scraping down the road for 2-300 feet.

Believe me I would like to have longer gloves but they are just impractical and look ridiculous on a 50.

I know that better safe than sorry but its better wearing shorter gloves than some of my mates who wear none at all.

Been looking round and what does everyone think of the Alpinestars Thunder Glove? Looks nice and a bit of a longer cuff. Question being what colour? White and black are both nice but my bike is blue but not too keen on that... So out of black and white whats everyones favourite?

Just so you know, at 60mph skin and bone grinds away at 1cm per second of sliding, you want good gloves!

Looks really aren't important, your safety is, don't be another typical ped boy who rides around with no gloves, trackies and a hoody, get the full kit... be mature about it and enjoy being able to use your hands/legs/elbows for the rest of your life

I wouldn't worry about looks, they're in the eye of the beholder. Wearing crap gear makes you look more daft IMO.
