Main problem with my current AGV is the noise and the misting up. So these are the two features I'm looking for most, previous experience of any of these would be good Smile

Shoei Raid 2 RC2

I've been told that the HQ1 is a really quiet lid so I'm swaying towards that

Any help appreciated.

I was fairly certain I was going to buy the new HJC, the R-PHA 10. Went in to the shop, and as you do tried on a few helmets because you're there and when I put the Chaser on it was so comfortable! Ended up with a deal on it meaning it was £300, which I was happy with as its a new design. The new HJC is really comfortable but I think ideally I was between a S and a M in it whereas the Chaser S fitted perfectly.

As most people replying will tell you the most important thing is the fit. A good fitting 2* sharp rating will protect you more than a poor fitting 5* so go try them all on and pick the one that feels best!

On a side note, someone told me the other week that the sharp ratings bear little resemblance to real life, because apparently they test the lid 3 or 4 times so that they get each impact point, and they don't use a new helmet each time apparently. I'm not sure how true that is, but if it is true then it's farily useless cos if your helmet takes a beating you chuck it and buy a new one, not wait till the fourth time it happens.

Does your loaf fit an AGV GP tech size L?

Mine doesn't as I was a Noob when I bought it and bought a lid that didn't fit. If it fits you then I have a perfect condition, 600 mile of use one in black knocking around. Will soon be eBaying it, has a new unopened set of cheek and head pads although the originals are practically unused also.

PM me if you are interested.

If not then I'd recommend a HJC FG-15, I bought one to replace the AGV, excellent lid for very little money. £100 last time I checked, 4* and comes in a few diff colours/designs.

EDIT:

Have you actually tried on the HQ-1? It is like wearing a wooden clog on your head, farking horrible lid. There are pressure points on your temples and forehead, not just me either. Make sure you try one before you buy it!!!!

I've got a Arai Chaser, its crap, very noisy and the visor mechanism has broken about 3 times. The vent on the top has also come loose. Complete crap!

My next helmet will either be a Suomy Spec 1R Extreme or HJC R-PHA 10 (Around the same price as the chaser, but supposed to be an awesome lid!)

It seems to have come down in price as well!!

personally, none of the above, basing that on style/design.

i ride in a shoei raid 2 and love it, nice and quiet especially with the whisper curtain.

i just don't like your design choices.

The helmets WILL be tried on before i pruchase. Specifically chosen these models as i know they're available in local shop to try on.

I quite like the designs myself. Not had any experience with HJC but the SHOEI i tried on at silverbike in Wolverhampton a few weeks back was a million times more comfortbale than my AGV.

SamJL, the Suomy Spec 1R is a nice looking helmet, but not stocked near me and a little expensive :E

What's it like for misting up?

It doesn't matter put a pin lock in whatever you buy and it will never mist up again.

Ive got a Raid 2, very good helmet. Quite lightweight and not bad on the noise front.
Previously had a KBC vr-1x which for the money I reckon would be difficult to beat. Just as comfy as the Shoei, good paint finish - a little noisier and a little heavier but that only cost me £35 brand new as appose the Shoei £140 (which was still a bargain). Get the Raid 2. I wanted that design but in the grey/black but I could i buggery get hold of one anywhere.

Thumbs Up

Not a bad lid. Nice and light. Seems quiet enough. Whistles if you ride visor up >30mph but I don't notice it any more. A very draughty/cool lid compared to my KBC VR1X. The HQ1 is great in the Summer. You can boil your bollocks off but your bonce will remain cool. My VR1X is a great Winter lid, it makes you sweat like a pig in the heat. Heavy too.

Do NOT buy an Arai...not only are they over priced (to pay for sponsoring half the Moto GP grid Rolling Eyes ) the visor mechanism is total shit..very easy to break the side pods when changing which will cost you another 20 + notes on top of the over-priced visor.... even when in place and opening /closing, it feels like its scraping more so than a smooth clicking movement like most helmets.

This is a common flaw and fuck knows why Arai never bothered to change it.. i'm sure they get 100's of emails about it..

I have a HJC CL 15 (about 100 quid) and opt to use this on the track over the Arai RX7... I find the Arai comes down too much over your brow which restricts your field of vision when leaning down and forward....

When fitting try one size down as well.. i tried a HJC medium and it felt fine, then i went to small and it was really smug so I got that size.. think i should have done the same for the Arai....and having said all that the Arai Haga rep paint is stunning Confused

Yes it will cos it needs constant maintainance as the locks turn.
Its constantly pissing me off. ARAI however dont need tinkering with the pin lock in.

I've had Arai's since 1990 and have never broken a side pod yet.

Another vote for the R-PHA 10, i wouldnt of worn a HJC before,
but it is the fucking dogs bollocks.

Comfy, well vented, quiet, the aftermarket visors are the tits.
and SUPER light.
