£55 I was told new throttle cables would cost for the ER-5 (theres 2) currently, the throttle is stiff as shit.

Looked online and can't find them any cheaper.

Hellp.

I had hoped somebody would point me in the direction of a website that sells cheaper parts - much like David Silver Spares for Honda.

Give 'em a ring.

When I had the ZXR4, they always had what I wanted in stock and were very quick with delivery, usually next day. Depends how bad you want it, I'm the sort that will pay a few quid more to get it sooner, rather than search about online. But then, the bike/s my only form of transport.

Thumbs Up

Just bought a genuine kwak clutch cable for my 9. It was £18.something so price doesn't surprise me really.

So long as it lasts longer than the two £5 universal jobs from HG that i have had to replace in the past month then i will be happy!

IME it's always best to go OEM where possible.

Yeah, have just ridden bike home with new cable fitted. Clutch has never felt so light and smooth - so much more control now. Wouldnt think a cable would make much odds either!

Dont see how this was 'funny'?

If it comes from the factory with it, and the difference is a few quid surely it's best to replace like for like?

I got an OEM chain and sprocket kit for the GSX-R for £145, straight from Suzuki. M&P were a little bit cheaper, but then I dont know where they get there stock from.

Confused

You're most likely paying an inflated price simply as it carries the makers logo on it though. I've never had trouble with aftermarket cables and usually buy the cheaper ones on ebay, sometimes even buy secondhand cables as spares. Isn't worth the extra expense for something that has a pretty long lifespan anyway whatever the supposed quality difference.
You don't really know where suzuki got their stock from though either really do you?

No.

But £145 for an official OEM Suzuki chain/sprocket kit is hardly paying over the odds...

Because its possible to get bowden control cables (thats all they are by the way) custom made to order for half the price of some OEM cables. As has been said, your paying for the name. I find people that fall into the 'OEM or not at all' marketing ploy hilariously entertaining.

Cheers

I recently replaced the throttle cables on my ZRX and it was a similar price for both, around £50 (pair). I could only find them a few pounds cheaper online but that was cancelled out by postage costs so just went with Cradley Kawasaki in the end. I only replaced them because one of them snapped otherwise:

Did the chain come in a Suzuki box and if so what make and grade was it?

Did the front sprocket have a rubber silencer on each side and come in a Suzuki bag?

Did the rear sprocket have a chain guard riveted to it and come in a Suzuki bag?

If the answer isn't yes to all the above you got mugged.

Lube them with engine oil = fixed. Either buy a lubing tool or make your own.

Gotta love this whole OEM issue.....

Do people actually belive that the bike manufacture make every little bit on the bike. And then only sell OEM that they make...

Boy are they in for a shock then.

As parts are out sourced from other manufactures, chains from chain manufacture's, tyres from tyre manufacture and so on. Now these co's also happen to sell to anybody else that wants the parts.
More often than not OEM can actually be of a lower quality than direct from the manufacture, as bike manufactures often spec down stuff to save on costs.

So why pay extra £££ just to get it in a bag that says X on it....

With many parts pop down to the local factors, bearing & chains are a great example and you can really save some big £ for far higher quality suff than you would get from the dealers.
Who often will source the parts from the same co's anyway.

Hi

Looking on the Cornwall Kawasaki site the cables are about £21 each.

https://www.cornwallkawasaki.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cmd=showdiagram&id=17318

£21 doesn't seem too excessive for a single OE cable, just with 2 it adds up quickly.

Some cables have a nylon liner and lubing these with oil will wreck them (the nylon reacts with the oil and expands).

As to chain and sprocket kits, compared to B&C that price isn't too bad. Might save £20 going for steel sprockets and an O ring chain from B&C.

All the best

Keith

I try not to go OEM as I've always thought that the parts have been built to a budget and therefore can't be as good as a pattern part from a company who specialises in a specific area.

For example, I'd feel robbed buying an OEM C&S when I can get a better quality renthal jobby for around the same price.

Thumbs Up
