Hey yall, as some of you will now from my other posts im doin my DAS next week and have been looking (and saving) for a bike for a while.
I was originally looking for an '03 CBR600RR but have fallen in love with the ZX6R C1H. Not sure why but its absolutely stunning imo and there is just something a bit different about it.
I know many of you will say buy a 125 or whatever but personally i dont see the point in spendin money on something im probably gonna get bored of after a few months.
Im pretty sensible and appreciate the fact that sport 600s can be brutish but i will defo be riding well within my limits (assuming i pass!) as i know too many people that have passed their tests, bought a bigger bike and then proceeded to throw it down the road!.
So my question to you is would you recommend this bike and are there any points that i should especially look for on this model? (also im about 6'3" and weigh about 90kilos just so you can take that into account.)
Thanks peeps.

The 636 is a pretty brutal sportsbike even for a 600cc class machine. Its handling is sublime, the brakes are more than adequate, its fairly well knocked together, has some interesting toys like the slipper clutch and electronic dash and it looks funkin fantastic.

Few downsides in general, not many like the dash, it is like a small childs toy and is physically tiny. The screaming engine is fantastic on the boil but the noise is a pain in the arse for general use. Its a Kawasaki.

For a new rider its going to be an epic jump but if your sensible you will be fine. Having said that it is still a very fast bike and a hamfisted handful of throttle will see you on your arse or catapulted into the next field. Under acceleration the front end likes to skip and shake more than usual over bumps so be prepared for that. Its not just a point and squirt bike and unlike the 125 it has the ability to get you in a lot of trouble very quickly, and I dont just mean with the police! The weight is in a good place though and shouldnt catch you out whilst trying to push it about and stuff.

At 6'3" you best be quite lithe otherwise this thing will break your back, make your neck ache, your legs cramp up and your wrists dissolve. My mate who is 6'4" got on mine and was shaking his head behind me after less than a few hundred metres! So you will need to get on one before you make your mind up.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck with your DAS and ride safe Wink

+1 ^

I went from a 2000 ZX6R to the C6F and it felt a big jump, it really is an epic motor, but if you think you can control your right wrist then you shouldn't have any major dramas.

On the height issue. I'm also 6'3 and don't find it too bad. I recently did 800 miles in a day on it, the only complaint I had were sore knees and the fact I couldn't feel my knob for 2 days.

HTH. Thumbs Up

Cheers lads! Ive only got about a grand and a half saved at the mo but give it a few months and i should have enough for one. It really is a stunning bike and just a bit different from all the other bikes you see on a regular basis on the roads.

Considered the insurance on one as a first bike? Bearing in mind for a absolute minimum of £3000 for the bike you are going to want fully comp.

Certainly have. Assuming i passed my test 3 months ago (its gonna take me at least that to save up) ive been quoted £1076 or £573 for TPF&T (and thats just the first one i looked at on Carole Nash) Can't really winge at that as im only 23.

Given I bought a brand spanking new bike and due to a manhole cover I had no chance of seeing almost binned it spectacularly within 5 hours of buying it.

I think you may want to up that insurance quote to Fully Comp.

Granted, you aren't me but it takes practically nothing to suddenly find yourself on your arse sliding down the road especially when you're just getting used to the bike.

This!

In the last 4 years riding my bikes have seen the road on average 1.25 times a year.

This will not be fun watching your shiny 10 grand bike sliding off into the distance.

F**K ME!! 5 crashes in 4 years!?! Roads must be bad! Where you live? Morocco?!?
Thing is when i spoke to the guy from CN on the phone he said and i quote "most riders get TPF&T on their first bike as if they do drop it or lose it, it usually works out cheaper to fix it rather than pay out £x on the excess and your monthly premiums on top"
I can understand about FC and i agree with your sentiments but for the amount of miles ill be doing and the fact that im an uber cautious calculating type of guy is it really worth spending over a grand on summat i shouldnt really have to use.
On top of this im also a pretty competent mechanic so if the worst comes to the worst ill buy it back off the insurer and fix it back up.
I do see your point though so dont please take this as a big "piss off i aint listening to ya" Wink Again thanks for your replies.

No point in fully comp as chances are it'll work out more expensive if you claimed anyway.

I know even after my 2 crashes i wouldn't have claimed for the first one (and only did on the second as it was pretty serious/involved someone else ) and it was written off anyway! lol

EDIT: ive already had 2 crashes and ive only been riding just over a year lol

This is what i thought. New bike fair nuff but a 5-6 year old bike for £3-4k?? Not too sure im gonna keep looking around anyway and try and get em down and if i can find a good deal on FC then ill go for it but im inclined to go Carole Nash as they offer loads of extras as standard.

C_dug. Fair play to ya! Nothing like getting back on that horse eh?
