Likely to be steering head bearings. With the bike on centre stand, front wheel off the ground, does the steering turn freely from lock to lock, or are there 'tight' spots, areas of resistance, or notches, as they're called? Also, grab the front wheel with both hands, one either side, and try to bend it. If you feel any play (like the wheel is loose on the axle), then it's the wheel bearings that have gone.

Wheel bearings, headstock bearings, or wheel balancing.

To check the wheel bearings get the front wheel off the ground and see if there is any play in the wheel (see if there is any other movement other than spinning freely, side to side etc.)

To the check the headstock get the front wheel off the ground and move the bars from left to right check to see how smooth it is. there should be no notchyness.

TO check the wheel balancing check to see if it looks like a wheel weight has fallen off or take it to a tyre place and have them check to see if it is balanced.

Could be mismatched tyres too, my Hornet always used to wobble if i let my hands off, new bearings all round and it still did it, fitted new matching tyres and it was sorted. Thumbs Up

I had unevenly worn tyres on my CG which caused wobble. Bent forks also cause manic wobble

Check you haven't got any broken spokes.
Got an old style CG here, and have just replaced the back wheel with an ally one due to having 4 broken ones. Had 3 replaced about a month ago. Down to the crappy roads here and my fat arse Rolling Eyes
I only noticed it was knackered when the back end started getting wobbly.

I've got a couple of loose ones on the front wheel and this is causing a vibration/wobble of the bars. Head bearings etc are fine.

Put the bike on the main stand and check each spoke with the wheel off the ground.

A 'stepped'/worn front tyre can cause vibration and bar shake.

Just to add to the potential causes, knackered swingarm bushes/bearings can also show up as a front end problem.

If you want to go the job right and once, then replace the headstock, swingarm, front and rear wheel bearings. Find the sizes and order them from a bearing place like simplybearings and the whole lot will cost less than 50 quid.

Rear wheel out of line could also be a cause
(don't trust the markings when doing chain tension)

using string is an easy way to check that its pointing accurately
(theres some good youtube footage I saw that explains how to do it)

Just done it tonight myself as the GPZ has developed a low speed wobble with hands off the bars...ever since I had the whole rear suspension apart and also jacked the rear up a bit
Rear wheel looked straight by eye and I had used the markings on the swingarm to get both sides equal...but using the string method has showed up that it was out of alignment

The lines marked on the swingarm of my bike are not accurate enough for setting up the rear wheels alignment alone(or maybe its the marks on the adjusters that are out)

Hoping its cured my issues and doesn't take long to do and costs nowt if you own some string a pair of bricks or axle stands and a tape measure or rule

Regards
Rob

Just touching the thread to say my no handed wobble issue has completely disapeared since doing the string thing to accurately align the rear wheel

Bike's handling feels a lot better all round (psycological as I now know its spot on)

Definately worth checking first as its a 5 min job that won't cost anything but a little time Smile

Hope you get to the bottom of it as it destroyed my confidence when mine did the "headshake thing"

Regards
Rob

Years ago I did a nut and bolt rebuild on a bike which included dipping all the painted parts in black paint.
Once reassembled the front end wobbled all over the show, I checked everything!
Eventually the only thing left was the rear wheel alignment, so I counted, and recounted, the alignment marks on the swing arm and found no fault.
As a last effort I checked wheel alignment with aid of a straight plank, success!
Then I counted, again, the alignment marks on the swing arm. 8 on one side, 7 on the other?
My paint dipping had completely hidden one mark! Laughing

Roy.
