Comfiest grip?

Changed bars during a recent tart up from high-ish wide-ish 8" rise 7" pullback bars
to 4" rise 4" pullback flatter set.
Aesthetically, They look nicer and suit the bike better IMO
but feel harder and make my hands tingle probably because I'm leaning forward a bit more
so thought I'd try fatter softer grips before changing bars.

any recommendations?

I had a similar issue with my Pan-European, the standard rubber grips are very hard and uncomfortable after a while so I fitted Grip Puppies over the standard grips and they are now much more comfortable.

I had a set of those (I think, may have been something else very similar) on my last XJ900 and they did the trick.

One thing I will say is that, after a while, they lost their adhesion to the rubber grips underneath and started to spin unless you held on tight, which is not only awkward, but an MOT fail.

Another vote for Grip Puppies, the Enfield feels less like a jackhammer and more like a vibrator now.

Ordered some foamy grip puppy type things.
Re the potential slipping issue ,
was wondering if a wee drop of PVA in the mix when fitting
would help them stay in place longer term?
Might try it, what could possibly go wrong?

My biking (on the roads) began in the early 1980s and I well remember the foam grips we all had. They worked too. They helped with vibration but also cold. I honestly thought they'd died away like fashions do and to see them as a viable useful product is surprising.
They will definitely help.

Much as I dislike the manufacturer. Oxford make larger diameter grips "fat grips" which suit my big hands much more. Less fatigue.

If you're getting problems with vibration/tingling. Change the resonant frequency of the bars with a different weight bar weight (heavier is usually better) or fill the bars with sand.

You could also get late 70's/early 80's Suzuki style rubber mounted handlebar clamps. Those are particularly hilarious on anything with any sort of rise.

As an aside - do you find the CX is a little vibey? Mrs has been complaining about the vibes making her feet feel funny and I feel like the bars are a bit buzzy too. Possibly just needing the carbs balanced as I don't remember it being so buzzy last year. It's not horrendous, bit a little annoying.

I know what you mean but mine isnt doing that
its pretty smooth luckily.

As you say, check the carb balance with vac gauges first
I find they can drift and check/adjust them from time to time

Also check the cam chain for wear and tension with a dental mirror
down the inspection hole on the rear RH side of the cover.
I've seen manys a CX lump where the owners allowed the cam chain to start chewing it's way out of the case
and only changed it when it rattled like buggery or snapped a guide or even broke the tensioners.

CX cam chains have a hard life and they're better changed sooner than later.
Probably the single most important thing to do to keep the old things happy.

Ignore any bullshit about them lasting 100K and the manual adjuster types being better than the later auto adjuster ones.
Vibrations aside, a worn chain will thrash and batter the tensioners and guides and chew away at the case creating an alloy slurry which pollutes the oil.

It could be other things like transmission bearings of course but I'd start with the above.

My grip puppy knock-offs turned up from China. Can't say I care for them, glad I didn't pay the full whack!

Not quite sure they're sized right. Got one that's slightly larger than the other. I thought it was the inner diameter of grips that varied from clutch to throttle size

I have Grip Kittys ( chinese grip puppy knock offs)
fitted now and there is a noticeable difference but
its still not quite as I want it.
Currently musing over fitting 6" rise bars and phat grips along with a larger screen closer to the size of the old one.
Experiments and mods got my old 8" bars and big nasty screen as I wanted it and bearable at motorway speeds, just need to keep modding.
