Hi everyone!

I'm 26, always wanted a bike and now I'm finally taking the plunge.

Up till now I've always had something else to spend the cash on, and wifey was never keen on the idea of me havin a bike....

I do a hell of a lot of road cycling and commute by bicycle so managed to convince the mrs that a 125 would be slightly safer than cycling in traffic, as at least I would be keeping up!

So a 125 was the plan, with the view to doing my test at some point.

As you probably all know there is no requirement for CBT here in NI but I thought it wise to get some training regardless. So I rang a local instructor. Sound guy kept me on the phone for 40mins and convinced me to go for the full test from the outset (didn't take much!)

So I have my first lesson Monday lunchtime, and I've even booked my theory test for the following Monday. Excited as hell nervous as fook!

Can't do direct access in NI so ill be restricted to 33bhp for two years, but that's probably for my own good!

Good luck with the theory test and the lessons. You'll be fine if you listen to what the instructor is telling you and take it in your own time.

If you get a 125 for yourself then get as much road practice as you can before the test as well. Make sure your practicing what the instructor teaches tho. I learnt to ride bikes in NI so I know how easy it is to pick up bad habits. I had to knock them out of my system before taking my tests.

There are loads of mod 1 and mod 2 training vids on you tube. They will let you know whats expected.

Also there is a dvd rom you can get which covers pretty much everything for a theory. I used it and passed first time.

Keep us all informed as to the progress and welcome to life on 2 wheels with an engine Thumbs Up

My advice to you would be google "learn to ride motorcylce training". This guys has videos which give the exact procedures for every manouvre on the NI test. I used it without training and passed them all first time. Very handy videos. Good luck and ask any and all questions you need answered. You'll be riding a big bike in no time.

I think it is. I think its just the theory questions that are different.

I used this and passed first time by using the learn by testing way.

First lesson done. Really enjoyed it. Done a good few very wobbly figures of 8, mostly spent the hour getting used to the controls and balance on the bike.

was hard keeping the bike upright when your head was telling you to lean the bike in low speed manoeuvres!

Also at the start I felt I was really keeping my arms and upper body stiff, when I learnt to relax a bit and loosen up I found it a lot easier to keep things smooth.

Bring on the next one!

Well done. It doesnt have to be pretty as long as the foot stays up.

Find a position that works for you on the slow turning and keep the revs busy. Use the clutch gently, out to move forward and speed up a little and pull it in to slow down and use the back brake only.

If you feel your going to topple then just let the clutch out a little more and it will righten you up again.
