125 - Which ones?

I was planning on doing my DAS when I turn 21, however its going to take a while to save some money for the test a bike and insurance, so was planning on getting a 125, will also get me used to biking as well.

However, I'm not too sure whats worth a look at, I like the look of the sport ones, such as the Aprilla RS 125.

Are there any others that would be worth a look at?

Its been said on many posts but I'll say it again before someone else does.

If your going for the DAS course asap then there is not much point in spending a shitload of money on an RS just to get biking experience. Get yourself something cheaper like a Honda CG, Yamaha YBR or a suzuki EN or something like that for several reasons.

Cheap to buy
Cheap to insure
Cheap and plentiful parts
Easy to ride
Easy to fix
Wont cost a lot when its dropped

Also. You are going to get on something like an ER5 kwak or suzuki GS500 to do the DAS course. They have a more upright riding position, closer to the mentioned 125's than the RS which is a race bike arse up head down position and not the most comfy to be riding for long periods.

No matter what bike you decide on, you are going to get off the bigger bike during the DAS course and really miss the extra power and as soon as you have passed your test you will want a bigger bike.

The average DAS course costs the guts of £500 - £700.


You can pick up a decent cg and get the DAS paid for with the same money you would spend on an RS

If you want a sporty look bike i'd stick with four strokes like the CBR125 and YZF-R125 (expensive, not really worth it imo).

Have you done your CBT yet? I would 'budget' in the fact you are going to drop your bike. Maybe you'll be lucky and won't, but the vast majority of people do at some point. It doesn't have to be an "off" of sorts, All sorts of daft situations come up like pushing it into the garden on an angle and leaning it away from you or coming up to a junction, putting your foot down and slipping on some shit on the road.

Echo the above sentiment, get a newish CG/YBR or even a CBF if you really want to spend the money. None of the 125's will be comfy at 70.

lol, really depends on what you want.. an everyday hopefully reliable 4 stroke ^ Ybr, Cg, cbr ect... Or something quick and 2 stroke that is prone to die a bit easier

The CG is banging bike. Theres a reason all the bike schools use them. You can run those things off turnip juice and they wont bat an eyelid.

If you're new to biking, then you will be introducing you bike to the tarmac at some point. It'll happen, some people introduce their bike to the road surface at 40mph ( a quick hi, how are you road? bye) and others give it a standing drop. (i gave mine a standing drop more than once but thats cz im weedy)

realistically, taking that into account, i say go for the CG because you want a bike to tie you over til you get your big bike. Pattern parts are easy to come by, and damn cheap. A quick search on ebay will show you this.

Get as new as you can for the money you can afford. If you don't mind them looking shit then things like the GS is a reasonable bet. DOn't have the cachet of CGs so usually cheaper in a similar condition, not as attractive to 17 year olds and pretty reliable.

Any jap four stroke will be much of muchness reliability wise.
