mid 90's (or whenever) trail type bikes?

So if someone was to be looking for an oldish trail bike for a bit of a project what would be reccommended?

I'm thinking of something for a bit of a project, to strip down and rebuild so cheap buying price and cheap parts are a bonus.
It would have to be reliable when finished so something with a strong engine as a start point maybe?
I wanna ride it a long way, and Id like to be able to ride it off road too

How about a Yam XT600 or Suzuki DR650 or Honda XR600

I dont really know alot about these bikes but hunting around in google seems to throw up these three. Although they dont seem cheap

Any input?
