So, as soon as i sort out my claim on my written off ybr Sad i'm getting myself a DT, which i can't wait for. But before i commit myself i just wanted some opinions on this bike!

Also, will i have to mix the oil and fuel myself on this bike or does it have a mixer? Confused

they have a tank for the 2 stroke oil so no mixing needed
they are a very good learner bike and alot more fun and faster than a ybr

Something else i was curious about, the lack of fuel light or meter. I know how to check my fuel levels without a meter (swish the tank or have a look Very Happy ) but i also know two smokers drink petrol. Has anyone really had any problems with not noticing they have little fuel, or is it just something you learn to look for? Confused

as it runs out of fuel switch it to reserve gives you about 30 miles to get petrol so no issue

you'll learn the range of the bike for yourself, just reset the trip counter when you fill up. Just make sure you switch the tap to on after filling up then ride until it dies then turn the tap to reserve - i generally have 15-20 miles when i get to reserve. And I get around 70-80 miles to a tank.

Sorted Smile That was the only real issue making me not to sure about getting a DT. Just got to wait for my insurance people to get their arses in gear now!

Seeing as i'm on a roll, here's another question: I'll be using this bike as a road bike mainly but would like to have some fun with it off road, full knoblies on the road are a no-go. But how much grip would semis give me?

I use knobblies on the road fine, Pirelli MT21.

Forgot to say when i first got the bike the rear tyre was an avon distanzia it was shockingly bad off road.

Do they not drastically reduce your grip on the road? (especially in the wet?)

I can't say i've ever noticed a dramatic loss of grip, the bike gets a little more twitchy in the bends and wheel spins if you pull off fast. Nothing to worry about though.

I'll definitely put some thought into those tyres then. Just a shame i can't try these things before i've spent my hard earned cash on them! Laughing

I loved using my brothers DT50, it was a fab bike...very forgiving, nice high seating on the road...you can see the road ahead well. I would happily have a larger version of the DT (if they made them Cool ).

I've got pirelli MT60's on my XR125 and they are pretty grippy on the road, When I say grippy all I've got to compare them to is off-road knobblies on my 50 when I had it.

So it might be worth looking into them. Thumbs Up

I don't think i could ever be without a 125-250cc 2stroke trail or motard style bike TBH!

You will have a ball on the DT im sure of it! I had so many laughs on my first KMX200 that i had to get another one after i had owned bigger bikes for 3years!

They did, the 80cc version was almost identical and they made the dt right up to 400cc which was a death trap and a tad evil.

I presume that's a 125 for the original poster - so, why not pass your test and get a bigger bike?
Can get a lot more bike for the same money or less!

And that's why I'd suggest you don't get one.

The M21 is a nice mixture of off and on road, I definitely like it. However riding back to back with a Enduro 3 Sahara (much more road biased), the lack of grip is very obvious - and a bit more again if you're trying to take the pee a bit and you're comparing it with a proper supermoto.
I'd more get annoyed with wearing the knobbly down on the road and wasting all that nice off-road traction Smile.

His YBR being nicked probably stumped him on that line of action....

But though a DT can (if not muggered about with!) be a Learner-Legal, Why should L-Platers have all the fun!?!

Lol! That's exactly what I thought taking the Cota on the road & wearing out a pair of control trials slicks!
Mind you, was fun scaring my mate, following on a CBX550 dragging the footrests though bends! Tarmac grip was PRETTY impressive!

It wasn't actually! But if you'd be willing to let little old me have a go you'd get no end of thankyous Very Happy And yeah i'm down wellington ways.

And the reason i don't just pass my test is because i only have about a months experience! The bike wasn't knicked either...i may have ummm... crashed it Embarassed
