What is this? It's wired into either the front dash lights or the tacho I can't see as it's all black sleeved wires once it goes a bit further. This device is a sealed unit.

Bike is zxr 750 - no idea what this is. No alarm or immobilisier on the bike and all other wiring is complete and standard - apart from this little device.

What is it? Cause I don't know.

Is the bike an import? If so it might be there to bypass a speed / power restriction.

Ahh you may be onto something. Would that be a tacho restriction ie it would only rev to a certain amount?
Just looked on the V5 and it was first regged in 97 but the SPECIAL NOTES section details "Was registered/used overseas. Declared manufactured 1993"

Its a de-restrictor. It would have been restricted to 115mph ( i think) via the rev counter.

I had Exeactly the same one on a zzr 400.

I have no idea.
Shift indicator or de-restrictor would be my first two guesses...
But, I'd have been tempted to try & contact the maker / distrubutor from teh tel/fax no on the lablel.

I did, long gone as is the website.

Mr Fisty you seem conffident in your answer and it seems the most likely explanation as well now knowing it's an import

take it off and see what it does to the bike?

If the bikes refuses to start its obviously something to do with the ignition ie derestriction etc
