No... this is not another "is it safe to clutchless shift..." discussion.

I noticed (accidentially) tonight that I'm able to downshift extremely easily - without the clutch - if I knock my gear lever down when riding.

I thought (and I could be wrong here, although I'm not normally wrong Laughing ) this was easy to do when changing UP by pre-loading the lever and "blipping the throttle" but not when riding a steady speed and "knocking" the gear lever (in either direction)??

Is my clutch in a "semi-engaged position" (sorry, this is the best I can describe it Confused ) so allowing the gears to engage as if the clutch lever were in my manly grasp??

The joys of a sequential box.

i'd blip it on downshift otherwise it isn't smooth and looks gay and can potentially damage your gearbox, i find it easier using the clutch for downshifts for better control if im braking heavy or whatever hence why racers do it.

Hahaha!! Thank you!
I love how you put looking gay ahead of the physical damage that could be incurred to the box! I see your concern and heed your advice Very Happy

I always clutch on shifting anyway - up (mostly) and down.
So it's not a problem as such then??

I can usually manage to shift up and down without using the clutch if I choose to, although I normally prefer to use the clutch to reduce the amount of wear and tear on the gears etc. Thumbs Up

There's nothing wrong with it if done properly, sequential gearboxes are designed for it, i've done it for years without any issues on various engines, but on the bike i think it's easier and you have alot more control if you are going heavy into a corner </rossi>

I find you can clutchless shift up and down the gears much easier when the biting point on the lever is right at the end of the travel.

Just a bit of useless information for you all there lol

It wasn't really, Laughing I just wanted to make sure that the ease in which I could downshift with out squeezing the clutch was normal or if I should be adjusting my clutch cable tension on the lever or assembly, in case it was riding the bite point all the time and possibly wearing the clutch excessively and prematurely.
