Ok so today i went out for a blast on the CRF. Bombing round on the little twistys near where i live (like a man possessed). Pass a few guys on R1's one on a Gsxr1000 and a ZX10R.
Anyhow gets to the little cafe gets and the guy on the 10 comes up an starts chattin to me. Asks how long ive been riding etc just general chit chat. Then says "right down to the question i wanted to ask ya, ya know how most of you SM guys blitz round the little country lanes? passing us lot on the sports bikes"
So i say "yeah"
To which he keeps going an then says "some of you lot have been saying what ya do for fun is try an chase us (the sports boys) down and pass us almost as if its a game. Or some sort of HA you got passed by a little 450 MX bike when were on litre supersports like you're trying to show us up" an he now mentions about how i didn't seem to be doing this and such bollox.
"Do ya not think its a bit of an unfair advantage? I mean like that CRF you have it weighs less then 100kg's and has a 50+bhp motor with wide mx bars etc etc you're bound to be able to go round these twistys (i live near the moors, kinda like mountain roads but with sheep everywhere) better than us lot on 180kg+, 180bhp with clip-on's. In much the same way as on smooth fast A roads we will be faster than you guys. I know most of its to do with people who buy sports bikes but can't ride them for shit"

This got me thinking it is quite unfair if ya think about it. But i wonder if this is what most other riders think too? If you were taking two riders of roughly the same skill one on an SM and one on a litre sports.

For those that are wondering he followed me back (via a different route but still v.twisty and hilly) and was a fairly adept rider sticking with me and going at a decent pace (but not Banzai).

Just sounds like he's bitter 'cos he lost. Laughing

I don't think theres any advantage to the CRF or the 10, spose it comes down to what you're used to and knowing how to make it work.

I know for a fact i'm much quicker through twistys on a sports bike than i would be on my CRF, but that's just because i've not ridden the CRF on the road that much, i suppose with a bit of practice i'd be about the same speed, maybe quicker in some places and slower in others but that just comes down to adapting your style to suit a different bike i suppose. Thumbs Up

Sports bike riders are slowly realising that sports bikes are for the track and dual purpose bikes are the way to go. It is alright having all that power, but without the roads or room there is no point.

this is what i mostly thought a few of them are starting to broaden there scope. Realising i don't have to have the latest missile to have a good laugh an yet still be quick. Although i do like the bitter idea haha Laughing

Personally i know im much quicker on my little SM than on a sports bike on the roads i ride. Well no i'm probably faster on the sports bike i just feel quicker on the SM because i'm ragging it more (in truth) but either way i enjoy the SM more because i feel like im riding it more within its upper limits than i can on a litre sports where i'm no were near

Me and TUG have just been out for a few hours, he's on a VTR1000 Firestorm vs me on KTM Duke 2 640 and it's pretty even but I did have a new back tyre on. Done it before on a mission down loads of twistys and I can hammer ahead on the KTM.

It's not an unfair advantage, it's swings and round abouts, as soon as we hit a long straight, I can't keep up and soon as we hit twistys, if I'm nailing it, he can't keep up.

Tried swapping bikes and wheelying, it's fairly easy, never done it on a litre bike, only a 600 zx6r.
