I have some Oxford lifetime soft panniers, which are very grimey from many thousands of touring miles.

Has anyone put these in the washing machine before, or any reason why this might be a bad idea?

This is similair to the type of luggage I have:

I've no idea about this particular type of bag, but I made the mistake of washing some cordura items in the washing machine years ago, and it took the coating off!

Maybe on a cold wash it'd be ok. Also maybe using the soap they recommend for down jackets etc?

Or just jetwash and scrub 'em Wink

Hand-wash program, cold temperature, with hand-wash liquid or powder. Done this with my textiles, backpacks, gloves etc. all the time. Thumbs Up

Put your waterproofs on and go through the local car wash.

On a more serious note, why not fill them up with stuff to keep their shape and use a nail brush, warm water and a mild detergent.

Cold wash in the washing machine, keep all zips zipped, DO NOT use any type of washing powder. leave to dry naturally.

The washing powder takes the water proofness out of it.

I'm not sure they are meant to be waterproof anyway as they
come with seperate waterproof covers.

Did you mean specifically dont use it for these products or more generally for waterproof clothes etc?

Generally, if you do feel the need to use a soap powder don't use softener.
