Hey guys, I had planned on asking my missus to marry me when we went to the Bulldog this year. Sadly, like all things this year it came down to money, I couldn’t go, I was meant to be paying for her too and couldn’t afford it. I didn’t go on my own in the end because I knew i’d be thinking about it all weekend.
So I still want to ask her, the time is right, but I’ve got no backup plan!
I get paid in just over a weeks time so i could wait until then to do something, i didn’t really fancy asking her just sat at home. I’m usually good with this sort of thing, but since losing the chance at the bulldog, which i knew she’d love, I’m struggling to find the inspiration.

She loves the Zoo, any zoo really. What’s your thoughts on popping the question there??
I really don’t have much of an idea where else that isn’t going to be a bit more exotic, like proposing on top of the Eiffel tower or something.

Take your time and plan it, maybe a month in advance.

Think of something completely unique and get a few mates to help etc. Dont rush it, just because the time is right.

If the zoo's do them touch and feel and get up close to animal things, try having a word with them in advance of going, see if you can get to do it infront of a crowd.

Ensure that your on one knee as well... bit of class and all that!

Just be sure she's likely to say yes first or you may then want to jump into the tiger enclosure so it can swallow you. Could always take her somewhere nice on the bike if you don't have much money. I don't personally see why it has to be in front of a crowd...ever, I've always thought proposals should be a private thing.

Yeah I hate the whole "in front of a crowd thing". For one, you're putting a woman on the spot thus meaning that if she says no, you both look like twats and it's embarrassing for the both of you, meaning that she will inevitably say yes to avoid that situation, and therefore you won't know if she means it until you are on your own.

She likes the zoo......she likes animals.....

How about......something along the lines of "Meet the meerkats" or flying wild birds experience....with a bit of imagination on your part you can work it in, whether this means having a word with the guys before hand so that the ring box is attached to the eagles talon as it comes swooping in, or you stick it in the box of meerkat treats and she pulls it out as she goes to feed them, looks up to find you already down on one knee, there's a meerkat licking it's arse next to her face...she's overcome with emotion and spontaneously bursts into orgasm squirting all over the meerkats.....oh, errm, ok maybe not quite that, but you get the idea of how it can be romantic along those lines.....I literally pulled this idea out of my head in 40 seconds, I'm sure if you dedicate some time to it you can plan it out perfectly, I'm sure it works out cheaper than a pair of bulldog bash tickets + expenses, so it should be within budget.

If you follow through with this idea I want an invite as payment, I never turn down a good wedding buffet!

Nice one Rider, what an image! Lol
I think you’re right, i’d probably fuck it up infront of a load of people anyway.
I’m going to have a think how to fit it into a day involving the Zoo. When we had a bit of a shitty time in 2009 i took her to feed the penguins, that’s he favourite animal. Not that she wouldn’t want to do that again but i think something along those lines would be great. Just as a gesture not as a butter her up kinda thing.

Invites will go out to BCF peeps probably. Thumbs Up

God I've just reminded myself of my ex's sisters fella telling me how he proposed to her. In Spain, in a karoake bar, after singing some god-awful song, and then got down on one knee and proposed to her on stage, in front of a crowd of what I imagine to be pissed up middle-aged brits. I sat there trying to hide the disgust that I was feeling, but I think my eyes gave it away. Thing was he wasn't the sharpest tool in the box (no, really, he was a bit slow) so he thought it was the most original and romantic gesture ever, knowing the ex's sister as I did, I was pretty sure she must have been dying inside every second. Fuck knows why she said yes and stuck with it, though she did end up with his best friend eventually, who was an even bigger twat, I remember sitting down at Sunday dinner once with her family and her sister and her new fella were practically fucking at the table they were over each other that much, I was actually looking around at the rest of the family wondering "why isn't anybody saying anything?? WTF?!?!". Fucking disgusting, this was shortly before her alcoholic dad had just enough wine by 2 o'clock to start going into a rage about nothing in particular which usually ended up with the missus crying and me having to listen to his ranting for 2 hours whilst he smoked his rollies and continued drinking, not to mention the time he got arseholed and told me about his porn collection and if I ever wanted to borrow a magazine where his stash was. I had to swallow my own vomit. I've forgotten what the hell my original point was now....errm, yeah, marriages, women, all a load of shit, the lot of it.

God that sounds aweful, the whole lot of it and all the people involved. LOL. I must admit I know people like that, I know people married like that.

Well, I’m anxious of the marriage to be honest, this is for stories like yours Ghosty.
Thing is, i haven’t gone over this in my head for a month and now I’m going for it....we’ve been together through all kinds of crap for about 7 years but the good times outweigh the bad and she’s a good friend too. I wanted to know, 100% that she is the one i could at least try to make happy as a wife.
I’m gonna give this a shot.
Maybe I’ll find marriage isn’t for me, im prepared for that.

Hold on backup here, is this the one you nearly took the ZX7R to Istanbul to propose with? Or is this somebody else I am thinking about?

I've been married three times (I mean, I still am married, sounds wrong the way I put it at first!) and couldn't tell you what I said or where for any of the times I proposed.

I guess I am one of those people who never learn...which is good as I am a teacher!

Ah well, as a laydee, I remember my (three) proposals well....

Funnily enough, with hindsight, in their ways they all summed up what was to follow.

in case killa's still dithering- best one was the now Mr Moose, who took me on a mystery drive to what turned out to be our then favourite place, Avesbury, sat me down under the biggest tree in the stone circle with a picnic, ie a bottle of cava and some pastry and eventually, after a very long rambly speech, told me to marry him: who was I to argue- I saved that for the rest of his life. and as it was a freezing cold november day and druids were everywhere, we packed up and came home sharpish.

Sorry for leaving this so long guys!

I finally did it. As she loves animals I took her to Cotswold wildlife park, she had been on to me about going to this for ages. As i had missed the Bulldog bash, which is where i originally intended to do it. I thought, why not...
She absolutely loves penguins, i did buy her a ‘feed the penguins’ day thing at bird world before and she had a wicked time. So we eventually got round to the penguins where i had thought would be the best place for it, but I bottled that part. There were too many kids around and people, I didn’t think i’d make a decent go at it so i waited. We got to the indoor tropical area which when i stepped inside was completely empty, only the sounds of the water features and birds etc. So I sat her down on a bench and after some strange looks from her i ended by pulling out the box and asking her. Very Happy

She was a little hysterical at first, then came the shock. Lol. She walked around the rest of the park a little dazed i must admit, nevertheless a good reaction. Thumbs Up

Yay- try to stay out of the way for about a year unless you actually have a preference as to venue, guests, tablecloths, etc....
