 Posted: 22:23 - 14 Sep 2010 Post subject: Knee Down on a Push Bike ? |
 |
|
Is this even possible ?
The reason I ask is because today on my way home from work, I seen this guy on a push bike (racing style bike) coming round a sweeping bend and he was leaning over excessively.
Which got me thinking, if he stuck his knee out, would he be able to touch the ground with it. Although probably not advisable since he was wearing lyrca.
The corner is a fairly fast corner since it is halfway down a big downhill stretch of road. To give you an idea - it can be done in a car at around 60mph - although I highly doubt the bicycle was doing this speed, but was going fairly fast for a bike.
Here is the corner in question:

Anyone aware of any non-engined bike KDs ? |

I've had my pedal down on a roundabout - bloody lucky not to come off, to be honest. Got home and tried to lean my bike over so the pedal touched at the bottom of its stroke.... bit further.... bit further.... bit further..... bloody hell! THAT far over?!
Don't think I could pedal with my knee stuck out  ____________________ Honda Varadero 125cc => Suzuki Bandit 650 33bhp => 77bhp =>

Yes I've got my pedal down in the past too - pretty scary being leaned that far over, and the edge of the pedal grabs some tarmac.
I should think it's possible to get a knee down, but I'd guess it's likely to feel precarious leaning that far over at speed ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

I ride a race bike and wear lycra also.
Had pedal at top of rotation and knee on the floor before.
All I can say is it made a bloody mess of my knee
Often lean really far over but not THAT far over.
Cheers,
Steve. |

I think the main problem is that on a pedal bike, you can't keep accelerational traction while going through the corner if you're getting that far over. This limits you quite a bit ____________________ 57 Huoniao HN125-8 - , 97 Kawasaki GPZ500S -

Not related to pedal pests but more that road. (I did once go down it sitting on a skateboard when I was 11 as it was shut for repairs
The Horsely Brae is one bit of road that I never do any stupid speeds on. (I used to live at the top of it just as you get into Overtown). All the drain and stank covers are in the middle of the road and the surface is getting really bad. Plus when it rains heavy it's like a bloody river, the drainage is shocking. Also with the Brownlee junction being blind it's a right crappy bit of road.
Before they built the second Garrion Bridge the traffic would usually back right up to Overtown, the amount of accidents at both the blind corners was almost a weekly event.
It's a bit better now with the second bridge only problem is the traffic now backs up from the bridges all along the Lanark road to the M74
Although going from Garrion Bridge to the M74 is a cracking bit of road when it's empty. Dont do it on a Sunday as all the old dears are out for a wee trip the garden centers doing 32mph ____________________ Current; 10' Aprilia Dorsoduro 750.
