Hi all,

Recently bought a watch from a supplier in hong kong. I have been tracking it online and today it said this

https://app3.hongkongpost.com/CGI/mt/e_detail.jsp?mail_type=ems_out&tracknbr=EA057755785HK&localno=EA057755785HK

Quote:
14-Sep-2010 United Kingdom Tendered for delivery without success because of outstanding payment of charges. The item is being held and the addressee is being notified.

Does anyone know if hongkongpost use royal mail as their carrier in the uk or is it another company like DHL / HDN etc

I'm fine with paying duty as I expected to, I just wanna pick up my package asap Thumbs Up

Depends on the seller. Most things that come from Hong Kong that are ordered on ebay or the likes use the local carrier when it arrives in the country it is to be delivered.

I ordered stuff from hong kong and it arrived by royal mail as its the uk carrier.

Only way to find out would be contact the seller. If they used a service like DHL then it would arrive by them. If they just took it to the post office then royal mail will pick it up when it arrives in the UK

On looking at the link info:

Quote:
Posting Date Posting Time Drop-off Point
3-Sep-2010 11:50 Granville Road Post Office

Date # Location Delivery Status
3-Sep-2010 Hong Kong Item posted.
3-Sep-2010 Hong Kong Processed for departure.
3-Sep-2010 Hong Kong The item left Hong Kong for its destination on 3-Sep-2010
5-Sep-2010 United Kingdom Arrived.
5-Sep-2010 United Kingdom Pending customs inspection.
11-Sep-2010 United Kingdom In transit.
13-Sep-2010 United Kingdom Arrived the delivery office and is being processed.
14-Sep-2010 United Kingdom Tendered for delivery without success because of outstanding payment of charges. The item is being held and the addressee is being notified.

Sounds like its at the delivery office so that sounds like royal mail to me. Chances are that its just not had enough postage payment and they want you to cough up the remaining ballance of postage.

Best thing to do would be contact the local delivery office to see if they have the item there as it sounds like the postman has actually tried to deliver it but no one was in to collect. Since they need more money the post man cant have just left the item and should have left a card saying that you have a package to collect. The fact that he didnt is no surprise as it often happens.

A postman wouldn't have tried to deliver it, he'd have delievered a card instead telling you there wasn't enough postage and you have to pay it.
Posties can't accept money.

Could also be that there is duty to pay, depending on the value declared on the parcel for the watch. Royal mail charge £8 for handling you money too.

Sometimes you just get a card through the door, occaisionally you get a letter asking for the duty.

This area is proof to the fact that postmen dont always leave cards. They have done it (or not done it) here with startling regularity.

Seems it was dispatched from Hong Kong using there version of royal mail, so it will be with Parcelforce worldwide branch of Royal Mail as they deal with excise issues and such.

Basically any government or national postal service use there equivalents in the receiving country, from my experience of buying snowboard gear from around the world.

EDIT: Here you go:

Without knowing your area, I would say you were right, Floyd.
What I meant to say, isthat they SHOULD mail a card, and as mentioned, regularly don't.

I'm a block away from hell in Portsmouth. I dont even think the postman comes into our blocks until he has a few deliveries to make. can go for days without receiving anything and then get a load all posted at different dates.

Sounds like another Postie under stress from management. Impossible quotas and the likes. What happened to the good old days?

I suspect that its being held by the royal mail as there is import duty to pay on it.

I recently had this with some bike parts imported from america bought on ebay.

I cant remember the details buts its something if something is of value £20 or more, import duty is payable unless its marked gift, in which case import duty is payable if something is £40 or more.

The twist is, I was only charged 90p duty, but £12 handling fee for royal mail to hang on to it until I had paid the 90p.

Robbing bastards.

Thanks for the replies guys. Oz you were spot on Karma

Found it hiding in parcel force in Mitcham in the end. Ended up having to pay £22.50 for customs charges £9.50 duty and the rest was a bloody admin fee!

Anyway, here is the offending item if anyone is interested. Photo is a little (alot) out of focus

How much did this watch end up costing you, including all of the additional charges that you had to pay, and was it still the bargain that you thought it was going to be?

I ended up paying a pound or two under £400 for everything in total. So considering the prices in the Uk are around the £500/£600 mark I still got a fair deal.

To be honest I wanted a watch for work and was looking to spend around £600, so got some change for petrol Mr. Green

Some of the fakes are very convincing and also very difficult to spot. You should always beware whenever purchasing high value items on tinternet, especially from HK.
