In some respect, you are correct.
However, it does vary on the depot its self.

I left Kwik-Fit about 5 months ago now. Quite glad I did.
I worked in a few different depots. One of them being a fucking great little center.
4 members of staff, all of us very honest people. Had a lot of loyal customers, and generally a really good reputation locally.

One of the other depot's I worked in, In fact, it was the last one I worked at.
All the management has now been sacked or suspended. That particular depot was a complete joke.

My new company is pretty good. Being a privately owned company, it's reputation of honesty is quite important.

"Remember boys there 12 million motorists in this country and if we fuck them all over once........."

I had a puncture mended on my lease car on Sunday you don't get service with a smile with a lease car cos they know they can't do you over.

Everything went fine indeed he even pulled out a torque wrench to finish the wheel nuts however he then bounced the nuts about 3/4 of a turn past the click, my 6 year old son shouted loudly accross the fitting bay "WHY ISN'T HE USING THE TORQUE WRENCH PROPERLY DADDY??"

one of my m8s works for kwik fit (well, used to be humphries) and got royally stitched up by this.

the short story was, the service tech will do the service then print out a QA sheet the manager needs to look at and sign. it'll have 4 random things on to double check (to make sure the boy is doing his job). unfortunately my m8 was so busy (and it happens a lot like this) that he just asked him if everything was done, he says yes so he signs it.

unfortunately in this case it was a watchdog car.. flat spare tyre, washer jets not working.. neither picked up.

to make matters worse he was then told the car needed discs and pads so attempted to sell this to the customer completely unaware that it didnt need em so he ends up looking like a mug attempting to fob the customer off on work they didnt need.

to say he was annoyed was an understatement.

he always prides himself on doing good work but they're never actually given the time to do it properly so corners are often cut and unfortunately it came back to bite em this time.

my m8s just annoyed that he's been made to look like the arse when he's done nothing wrong.

needless to say he's already looking for other jobs, apart from the fact kwik fit have screwed him over for nearly a year over getting his mot licence (short story, he took a step down from manager with the promise they'd put him through his mot licence) a year later and a years reduced salary later.. still no course,.he really thinks they'll just fire everyone involved in this and move on so he wants out.

problem is, he's not sure if he wants to continue in the motortrade even tho thats been his focus for about 10 years.

difficult situation.

What I don't understand is what makes the mechanic on the shop floor recommend work that doesn't need doing. What's in it for them?
I had a bad Kwik-Fit experience, luckily I sussed it and didn't lose any money, so I will never go back to them.

I suppose its about getting the maximum time from a customer so therefore reducing time waiting for the next one to walk in.
OK I can see that

I went into Kwik Fit in Workington on a Sunday and can't praise them highly enough!

I had a flat tyre and they sorted it and didn't even charge me! Was the only place open on a Sunday and I am glad they were!

You get bad garages anywhere, including the independants. I've been screwed over by a few of them in the past.

Can't speak for kwik fit (stupid name), there was a place in Rugby. One of the guys was pretty helpful actually, seemed a respectable mechanic who only wanted to help.

Independents on the other hand, there was a service/MOT centre on Cemetery Avenue in Sheffield who stiched me up.

Took my 106 in there for it's usual MOT not long after it had been given a going over by my [previously] local rugby dealer. They told me the spark plugs were fucked and shocks needed replacing.

After a couple of recommendations I decided to do the work, at the cost of about 300-400 quid.

A few months later my car started fucking up. The solution, new plugs! Those guys had done FUCK ALL to my car.

These guys:
Motec Auto Services
50 Harefield Road
Sheffield
S11 8NU

Hopefully they've changed as it's been a few years but be warned! Weren't exactly friendly either as they were screwing me.

As said many times never get an MOT from a place with a workshop or a nearby workshop which they can recommend.

My sister regularly has suspicious MOT failures from stealers. But she pays up as she isn't as acertive and thinks they always know best.

didnt really read my post now did you..

i'll repeat it for you just coz im so nice Wink

he wasnt the one who did the service!! (or not in this case)

he was just told it needed discs and pads and everything was done when in fact it was the service tech boy that hadnt done his job. my m8s problem was the fact he ended up trying to sell the customer those items unware it didnt require them and unaware the service hadnt been carried out properly.

that clearer now?

Totally, but it's still his fault.

Maybe he should have checked.

At the end of the day, your 'm8' was not totally innocent.

It was your mates fault. His job was to oversee the boys work (which you said above) but he didn't becuase he "was too busy". (i.e. lazy)
