I cant help but notice that the bikers nod has practically disappeared, from london's roads at least. No biker ever nods anymore.

I decided i was going to try a little experiment, and nod at every biker i saw, daily, for a week, and i nodded to about 50 bikers at least, and only 6 nodded back. 2 gave me nods first.

The biker's nod was a tradition that i liked, felt like you were part of a community. Not so much anymore. I say bring the biker's nod back. Nod at every biker! (I understand if you dont nod at scooters though, that might be going a bit far Wink hehe) and together we shall bring the biker's nod back!

If you nodded at every biker in London your head would fall off as there are so many.

The nods are alive and well here in Wales. I even nod to the scatty looking kids on 50cc scoots who wear T-shirts and trackies... they love it!

The biker nod appears to be fairly healthy in and around Cardiff. I tend to nod at most bikes (of any description/cc) and rarely get ignored.

The only ones I refuse to nod at are the chav-types when they're riding dangerously, and giving the rest of us a bad reputation.

I think it's fairly well known that in London the biker nod is unnecessary.

A quick chat at the front of traffic lights or racing through the traffic is usually de rigeur instead.

I don't nod anymore, it's old hat and gives me neck ache....So, I replaced this with a extremely enthusiastic wave. Much funnier and some of the reactions are priceless. Thumbs Up

Is this the BCF wave discussed at Brighton? I was chatting to MonkeyKnuckle, both of us tried it on the way home (different directions) and got responses.

Its basically both hands off the bars and a 'team america' style panic wave.

Its rumoured that if anyone actually searched for the term 'nod' (or tits, gary or chuck norris), BCF may actually break!

I agree with the OP and since I moved to london about 3 weeks ago barely anyone nods. The further out of london you go the more nods I seem to get, probably cos theres that many bikes and to much concentration on traffic in the city.

You'd be like a nodding dog in London, i don't bother.
Elsewhere it does seem less, understandably i get mainly ignored on the pigged up pan euro but even on other bikes you often get the death stare, mainly from snotty cnuts on shiny tractors

We londoners tend to nod at traffic lights, As soon as you get outside the M25 the nod returns.

I get quite a few nods and waves in London. I am quite a polite road user though. I am aware I do not filter very fast (I follow the 20/20 rule someone posted here) and always move out of the way for faster motorcyclists. Its rare I don't get a nod, wave or foot out on most journeys actually... Smile

I nod quite a bit to almost anything on 2 wheels though. Always have done when on a bicycle, sorta follows through on a motorcycle I guess.

I have a theory it's weather related. Nearly everyone nods on a sunny day in the middle of summer. Few bother when it's grey and horrible.

To be fair when the weather is shit, I'm more focused on ensuring I'm alert and if the conditions are poor, can see far enough ahead.
Once riding through flooded backroads in bucketing rain, very few of those I saw out were even thinking about etiquette. Laughing

If it's just overcast that's not enough to take the cheeriness away from jolly ol' me. Very Happy

Anyone who is sad enough to set up a little experiment with biker nods is very sad. Therefore that personality must be shining through and people not wanting to nod at the nob Razz

What bike is it people will often not nod at peds and 125's
