The Mrs reversed into a parked taxi last night just outside the house. She says he wasn't there when she began reversing out and just didn't see him.

She says she barely touched him before she noticed and stopped.
His car was quite badly scraped/scratched (I have a strong feeling his car was like this already)
There is a very slight mark on her car but definitely does not correspond with the deep scratches on his.

She phoned me, I came out and he said something along these lines "She didn't see me and reversed into there (pointing at the bumper) Her car is marked too but we can just sort this out without insurance if you want"

I thought something was fishy straight away and got down on my knees to check the height of her bumper with his and they were the same height but i'm sure a lot of cars are very similar.

We left it that he would get a quote to have it repaired and phone us within a few days. (Silly I know but you don't think properly at the time)

I guess my question is does anyone know if it is possible to have this happen, one car hardly marked whilst the other has quite deep scratches about a foot squared on the bumper/rear panel.

Was she reversing around a corner and thus didn't see the taxi?

You might be right about him pulling a fast one, but how can she think the taxi wasn't there when she started reversing, yet was when she finished... is your Mrs 90 yrs old? Wink

We have an L shape parking area to the rear of our house, when she walked out the taxi was not there, she got into the car and began reversing out, during that time the taxi pulled into the spot we normally reverse into.

Her fault of course which she is willing to put right, but what's the best way to approach this?
Do I phone the plod and tell them we don't think he's being honest?

Whenever I have a shunt I make a point of getting a picture of the other vehicle before I crash into it so the insurance company can see how much damage was there beforehand.

Isn't there a law about reversing out of a drive onto a road...? You are supposed to reverse into your drive to eliminate this. Idea
